Show package BILL the cry of the country since the decision in the original package suit has been that some law be enacted broad enough to allow each state to govern its own liquor traffic A bill was drawn up but its provisions hardly gave power enough to the police department of a state this week an amendment was made stating that all fermented distilled or other intoxicating liquors or liquid transported into any state or territory or remaining therein for use consumption sale or storage therein shall apon arrival in such state or territory be subject to the operation and effect of the laws of such state or territory enacted in the exercise of its police powers to the same extent and in the came manner as though anch liquids or liquors had been produced in such state or territory and shall not be exempt by reason of being introduced there in original packages or otherwise the meaning in this case cannot be mistaken and wo think the bill should now become law nono can question the right in america of a state county or municipality governing the liquor traffic to suit the fancy of the majority be that prohibition high license or free whisky to say that because the intoxicating beverage is produced in another state the one into which it is im cannot forbid its sale is the eight of folly still that it the state of affairs since the ruling of the supreme court it would be enst as reasonable to say that because aper is brewed in salt lake provo cannot collect license wo are glad that congress feels disposed to remedy this before the present session is adjourn I 1 ed a law should bo enacted broad enough and strong let prohibition hibi tion states go on in their good work |
