lieu hydrants at 75 cuan the motion was seconded by councilor dunn councilor liddiard moved to amend the amendment by striking itri king out hydrants and inserting in lieu thereof for euch hydrants iia may be ordered by the city council A long and dreary debate followed mr maiben explained that he had of fer edthe amendment with the understanding that a rebate would be made during the first four years if only 50 hydrants at 60 each per annum were taken by the city the company could not afford to lay pipes over the whole of the city some of the citizens would be excluded from tho waterworks water works and tie thought that all should have equal privileges mr liddiard could not see why the city should obligate itself to take any number of hydrants from th company before the ft orka were built any more than a private citizen should let the company 0 o ahead and build their works and ihen the cit could take what hydrants they wanted whether it be ten twenty or a hundred there might be changes in the city before the works were built anil tho council would hardly know A liere to place alie hydrants at present mr dunn was of the same opinion the councilor from ahn fourth ward all parts ot the cit should be equally con oi dered mr glazier thought that the city had more on ita hands now than could be completed thousands of dol lara had ben spent on the east drain and unless mors wa spent the work al ready done would go for nothing he of prove taking hydrants ja they w anted them mr diroa decidedly in favor of mr amendment it had been the understanding aiom the first that the cit was not bound to take an number of hydrants let the company chow that they meant bushings and than rhe city would take what hydrangia hydra nia they A anted mr I hurman who was present ure sent explained that perhaps it was not understood that the city would take a certain ot but it waa under aboud that the city would take water the company witcher jones and A osmont OS moot jr arged that it was the duty of the city to encourage and support the company by taking hydrants if it did not there would be considerable dissatisfaction among the citizens an it would be impossible for the company to put in a complete system mr henrichsen waa not in favor of contracting for hydrants until the company had done something mr maiben aam urged the necessity I 1 of substantially assisting the company I 1 mr liddiard reviewed the history ot 1 the question mr jones had been in a great hurry and the franchise had been through the dirt was to fly within a week and we were to have water bv christmas it
