Show CLOSE OP THE FAIR A greater success attained than was conceived of last saturday the territorial fair went out in a blaz of glory As a success it far exceeded the most expectations of the directors who have labored indefatigably for its triumph among the exhibits bv utah counte establishments we find the following A large collection of homemade pottery ware consisting of vases pots etc by the provo pottery they were taken to salt lake tuesday last by clr hendricksen proprietor of the pottery and given a prominent position by the directors the bovo povo mills had an extensive display of woolen goods including a very great variety this was one of the best features of the pair bowen bros of spanish Fork showed a french coachi stallion bred in france and a animal he is barred not having been long enough in utah he is 4 years old and dapple brown this same firm showed two stallions pure bred which are splendid animals but are barred having been brought to utah last spring they are 3 years old and were bred in france T T mccullough of alpine entered a handsome pair of dapple greys aa an allwork all work span weighing 1180 and 1210 pounds they are brothers J B dark of pleasant grove entered grey chief as draft stallion ho is seven eights norman and oue cirth has a beautiful iron rey coat he is two years old and a utah bred horse there are a number of very fine animals on exhibition in this department but particulars could not be obtained respecting them it aa the best however held in the territory and is a cry creditable exhibit showing rent interest and rapid progress in ane matter of improvise provine im horse stock W E weihe was given the fist and henry heiner the second premium for best homemade home made violins A large number of entries were made for the baby chow and great interest was manifested in it mrs abbie bird of the seventh ward of salt lake city for a boy nine months old received the first prize 15 as the finest baby over six months and under one far old mrs david brown of draper for a girl five months old received the second prize of 10 for the finest baby ais old and under both the above were given by R K thomas young dallin has a fine specimen of his work on exhibition placed there by his father it is a statuette of john L sullivan in boxing trim and posture and besides being an represent in features of ahe man the artist has caught the inspiration of animated nature and conveyed it to the clay almost like life itsell it makes a utah man feel proud on looking at the statuette to remember that young dallin is a utah boy who has gained the applause of the world with his paul revere statue bome fome person or persons mischievously disposed placed some cards on which were written the words take one on the exhibits of peaches plums and apples in tho exposition hall the kind invitation was accepted by a number of people until the owners happened to discover what was going on and put a stop to it |
