Show CITY COUNCIL the enquirer resolution up again IT IS DECIDED TO PAY NO MORE ATTENTION TO IT undignified report by a trio be statesmen alie council met in adjourned bession on thursday night last there was a bare quorum present the mayor occupied the chair the report of the marshal for july was read showing twenty five arrests and fines assessed the report was accepted the report of the treasurer was then read and referred back for correction the report showed a balance in the treasury of the report of the recorder for the month of july showing the amount collected on licenses to have been mr maiben wanted to know who had the authority to fix the amount of license on being answered that the license was fixed by ordinance mr maiben said that the provo lumber co were not paying an adequate license as far as he could tell they were in the same business as he was and he was in a position to know about what the company should pay he thought they ought to pay license on sash doors and paints and not hardware alone it was agreed that the recorder should look into the subject the mayor however referring to the fac that home manufactured articles were exempt under the ordinance the report was accepted mr alexander passed up a document to the mayor and requested him to read it it proved to be the report of the committee on judiciary in reference to mairena Ma ibena resolution proposing censure on the it read as follows to mayor and council of provo city GENTLEMEN your committee on judiciary di to whom was refined a resolution condemning the cobrae of THE UTAH for mis and misrepresenting the doings aud actions of the council of provo city beg leave to report that in the opinion of the committee the council cannot afford to give undue importance to the oringa of irresponsible writers and would be reporters and therefore we recommend that the council pay no more attention to the matter respectfully A D JAMES dusx IV D provo city aug the mayor remarked that he though the had read the document correctly though it was in mr Dunna handwriting it was moved and carried that the report be adopted not a single comment being made during the proceeding claims were allowed as follows marshal T E thurman police service in june 4 J W turner for board of prisoners 27 geo V gee and deputies UTAH for advertising and printing G 0 haws supervisor 1650 provo L M B co for sundries 1572 provo L M B co for band stand T E thurmand Thur claim for sprinkling the streets was presented and referred to the marshal for certification on motion a special committee of three was appointed to make an apportionment portion ment of the amount each iserson or firm should pay toward defraying the expense of running the sprinkler and consult with such persons as their willingness to pay the amounts so apportioned the mayor appointed as said committee jas E daniels jr W K H and H J maiben mr brown moved that the committee on streets and alleys take into consideration the advisability of driving a well of sufficient size to fill the sprinkler and report next meeting the motion carried and the council adjourned un til monday evening next at 8 |
