schools the entire corps of teachers was called together and in the capacity of a regularly organized district teachers association held ten consecutive sessions during the week preceding the opening of the schools planning in detail the work of the year then before ns in this labor we were materially aided by the outline plan blocked out and adopted by the utah county teachers association atthe six day session in hammock grove but the almost entire change of text books made a general revision of this plan a matter of convenience if not of absolute necessity the school work having thus been prearranged the grounds buildings furniture and apparatus were carefully inspected by myself and the respective spec tive teachers previous to the opening of the schools we found that by your order the buildings had been thoroughly renovated bandsuch and such repairs made as were necessary dortho convenience and comfort of the teachers and pupils and each teacher assumed the responsibility of the pro from injury and of the general condition of his department as far as the conduct of the members of ane school was concerned under your direction a thermometer was placed in each room and from the public schools there have been three denominational nomi national and one private school in the district during the year and further that the average daily attendance has been seriously interfered with by tho presence of contagious diseases during the best portion of tho school year and had it not been for the prompt and persistent efforts of the city quarantine physician dr M H hardy together with the united efforts of school officers teachers patrons and pupils in preventing the rapid speed of the measles and scarlet fever our school would in all probability have been so seriously interfered with as to have necessitated at least temporary suspension of class dorkas has been the case m many of the districts of this and other counties school organization in each has been ef 1 fectea and kept operative a school J organization having in view the creation of a public sentiment against vice and disorder and a distribution of responsibility among the pupils that will pleasing and profitable in one particular at least have our examinations indicated interesting and progressive progress ivd work and that is this during the examination week of each term and especially that of the last term the attendance has been better than that of the preceding week several who through a force of circumstances had practically withdraws returned for the purpose of reviewing their work by examination and endeavoring to get a certificate of promotion which they could not obtain without passing successfully AND certificates each pupil has been furnished with print having completed the course of study prescribed for any of the grades these blanks together with the paper you have furnished for compositions etc have been most efficient factors in securing punctual and in the central the pupils have had access to a library of volumes and three current magazines viz youtha companion treasure trove and the utah industrialist also the salt lake daily herald and through the courtesy of mr J C graham the UTAH has been sent the school gratis were these books and papers any small factor in education I 1 would hesitate about giving the library so much prominence but small as it is it has aided the teacher in creating a literary taste among the pupils that could not have been acquired without such aid the cabinets have been steadily added to and an effort made to begin the collection for a school museum of animals and curiosities of our own territory SCHOOL the district teachers association is composed of the following teachers ampt brimbau Brim haU ton J E present school year a large room has been finished and furnished in the central building a new commodious brick schoolhouse has been erected and seated in tho northern the district shade trees set out on three of the school lots end school kept running four full terms in the performance of this there has been a union of effort by school officers teachers patrons pupils and the general public that points upward for the school interests of our community with a consciousness that I 1 have labored earnestly to have our educational progress keep pace with the demands of the age and that in so doing
