Sand protection against unfair methods and monopolies. It has long been a mooted question as to just how far legislative enactment may go to relieve economic ills without running in opposition to economic law; and therefore rendering itself useless. We have one one side of the argument the supporters of the comfortable old Laissez Faire doctrine (Let things alone), advocating that we do nothing to relieve the distress contingent with the growth of an industrial civilization; on the other side have been arrayed a combination of free thinkers, radicals, and who have been loud in their acclamation that the government can do anything even to the creation of an unlimited supply of money, to bring about prosperity. Naturally it is refreshing to see that facts are beginning to indicate rather specifically about where science and legislation can meet and harmonize for the public good; and tho price fixing a long established hope of the dissatisfied and the oppressed, can no longer be regarded with favor, even by those 'who might be expected to profit, there is still a vast field for governmental help in the promotion of equalized opportunities for everyone, and the ' Curtailment of greed and uncontrolled on. . monopoly. SHERIFF HARRIES things about their government? It is probable that they comfortable bank accounts, contented homes, are loyal employees and patriotic, citizens. Isnt there a principle in this Ford system that will go far toward hauling down the war flags from both camps of capital and labor ? It is the genius of democracy to solve its problems at the source from which the difficulty arises. In the last analysis these social and economic problems are largely individual in their nature and they are best solved by the parties concerned. When any of the parties to these big vital problems that concern us capital and labor for example will stroll out together to some quiet place, talk over their difficulties, come to a mutual understanding with frinedship and good will existing between them, you have then destroyed that thing which rankles and burns in the breasts of men when unjustly treated, or subjected by force, always expressing itself in hatred and crime. To settle this question by law is artificial, usually arbitrary and defeats its own purpose. Any permanent solution to our social and economic ills will be based upon a mutual understanding in which both parties are given a just reward for their service. Give a man a little bank account and a fireside and the red flag will never be unfurled. There is a tendency in the business world today to recognize this principal of profit sharing. Capital and labor cooperating and sharing the profits according to the service rendered. We have a notable example of this in the J. C.
