Tho grand jury had another charge from his honor, Chief Justice McKean during the session of the Court on Monday. His designs evidently are, to Herald his peaceful soul into future bliss. His honor called the attention of the grand jury to a libel, as it appeared in tho Salt Iaike Herald. Ills honor implores the jury to investigate his (Judge McKeans! past history and if they find during his career any indictable olTcnso they are to make indictments accordingly. What a mammoth obligation the judge places on the shoulders of that jury. But tho Herald is to be indicted for the arlicle which nppeared in last Sunday's issue under tho heading Hitting llis Honor, of which tho following is a copy: When such broad insinuations and direct attacks are made on our Chief Justice, the Herald is sorry that it cannot defend him: that is, the Herald regrets that Utah has a Chief Justice who is indefensible when such attacks are made. The annexed gonge fub toga is from tho Virginia (Xev.J Independent; In his recent charge to thegrandjury of Third District of Utah, Chief Justice McKean directed them to inquire into the disposal made by the Territorial Legislature of vast tracts of public-lauds- , of many streams of w ater, and of vast forests of timber. What vi ill be done with them after they have been inquired into we do not 'know; unless, indeed, with the accomodating spirit for which the Chief Justlee of Ltah is so remarkable, ho appropriates them to his own use and profit, as he did the Silver Shield and a couple other mines. While we rejoice that a day of atonement hxs at last come for the extra legal and practices of the Mormons, we cannot help wishing that the instrument employed to bring it about wore worthier the work than McKean. The Judge marked out the programme following an indictment of the Herald fraternity by stating that they would lie tried before ono of his honors associates. The Southern Missionaries. For Zion's sake will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalems sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp thatburnoth. And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, anil all kings thy glory; and thou shalt be called by a new name, which tho mouth of the Iord shall name. Thou shall also le a crown of glory in the hand of the Loul, and u royll diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shult no more be termed forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed desolate; but thou shalt be and thy land called llepbzi-bah- , Lord for the Beulah, delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. Isaiah, 02nd Chapter. In reading those verses from this Chapter of Isaiah, I desire to call your attention to a few things connected with Ziou as tqxjkcn of by the Prophets. The Zion spoken of here, way be taken in a wrong meaning unless oilier Script me, contained in other chapters, were taken in connection with this. When I visited Japa I was told that that was the placo where Noahs ark rested, but a person without the direct 1 wealth, dug down the walls, making! tho city lutve the appearance of a mining (simp. Tliis brought about tho exact fulfillment of the words of tbo Savior. Josephus informs us that fiezar ordered that tliu town on the 'hill of Zion should not bo demolished. but it is probable that! liis order was not long obeyed. This is a historical which will, show tiie fulfillment of the sayings .fj the Savior. The hill Zion was but a small place but it was enlarged uon until in the time Sf Titus it was surrounded by a lurgii city, for over one million of Jew s were destroyed during the seige. You can readily comprehend the numbers which inhabited those old cities by somo of our eastern thickly populated ei ies.
