Tlio Democratic pirty of Utah county, coun-ty, by Ita authorized delegates In convention con-vention assembled, submit the follow-Hig follow-Hig declaration of principles: 1 Wo roalilrm, and endorse tho Democratic plattorm adopted by tho National Democratic Convention at Chicago In 1800, and especially that-portion that-portion of said platform which declared In favor of tho freu and unlimited coinage or silver equal with gold at the ratio of 10 to 1. Thn wnrfaro bo-tucon bo-tucon the money power of the world aud tho mascs of humanity is still on, tho Issue Is as Important now, nnd more Important than it was in 1805. It Is and must continue In bo a conlllct between grinding monopolies on the nuo hand nud the tlown-troddun masses on tho othor, until, by the mighty vnlco ot tho peoplo nt tho ballot box, It shall have been settled, and settled right. This is the paramount Issue la-roro tho peoplo. It has hitherto been in tho Slnto of Utah a question upon which all of (ho political parties agreed. Recently, howovcr, by tho uso of Juggling words nud meaningless terms, calculated only to obscuro tho vital qiiestinu and befog the Issue, tlio Republicans of Ut'ilt, with ninny honorable hon-orable exemptions, in violation of their solemn pledges nnd promises to the people, liavo taken a backward step In tho progress of tho light until It hns become Impossible lo regard them any longer in nuy other licht than ns tho rnenils of gold and enemies of sliver Tho only truo friends of any question nro Ihoso who light ror lis triumph, nnd light to win. Such Is tho attitude of tho Democratic pnity towards the rrec and unlimited colnago or silver equal with go'd as a money nt ultlmato redemption. 3rho Democrats of Utah county nro proud of tho result m of tho war with Spain. We am nono the loss proud of tho fact that Democratic Senators Sen-ators and Reprosnntatlyes in the Congress Con-gress of tho United Slates by unceasing unceas-ing agitation, In ppltn of a formidable opposition by Republican loaders created cre-ated a public Hnutimont in tho country which forced nnd compelled a reluctant reluct-ant Republican Administration to declaro war. A declaration which not only tho distinction of tho "Maluo" wns nrranged, but liberty nnd tho opportunity op-portunity of cnllclitoncd frco government govern-ment wns extended to an oppressed nnd down-trodden people. 3 Wo rnnfllrni our mlhcrenco to the doctrine of equal suffrage, and nro proud of that provision of tlio Constitution Consti-tution of tho Slnto or Utah, by which equal suffrngo Is guaranteed without regard to tho distinction of sex; and wo declnro that that provision of tho Constitution, nnd tho Inws made In pursuance thereof should bo given tho fullest posslblo effect; nnd tho absnluto right of women to voto and hold olllco should bo uphold and maitaincd, 4 Wo congrntulato tho people of Utnh county, and tho Democratic party thoreln upon the clean, frugal nnd honest administration of the county government by the officers elected In 1800. Tho county govern-mont govern-mont has ben administered nnd coiv duoicd lii'tho Interest of the citizens and the taxpayers nnd for tho oubllo good. Wo therefore, ns tlio representatives represent-atives of tho pirty to whom said officers owp their olecllon, lion tily en-dorso en-dorso and approve tho manner In whloh they havo discharged their trust nnd bespeak for them tlio slncoro grat-Itudo grat-Itudo of tho peoplo of Utah county. |
