S was within five yards of bf U University goal A touch-down touch would have been recorded but Hedger let the ball slip from his fingers and it went rolling a away way no one seemingly noticed its whereabouts But Milt Sprague had been watching everything and no sooner did Hedger let go of the ball than Milt was upon it As he fairly flew over the y f ground he snatched the ball from its snowy resting-place resting and was off with only Robbins and Hedger aware of the play They made for him but Milt did not let them get a good hold and dashed 1 up the field Tripp one of his own side keeping him a good second On R they sped and Milt crossed the goal 1 line midst wild cheers from the U. S again tried the tactics which had placed the ball so near the opponents' opponents goal but this time they failed and the Juniors were given the ball on downs A centre buck availed nothing but hut huton on the next play Sprague opened for five yards But the p pace ce could not be kept up and the ball 1 I again went to H. H S. S Howell made three yards and Hedger added five r t Meakin failed to gain and Hedger in vain battered the University centre Hugh Sprague was disabled and Langlois Langlois Langlois Lan- Lan glois took his place On the next three downs H. H S. S barely managed to make th the necessary gain There began again another series of very effective bucks on the Varsity's left until the ball was again within three yards of the Juniors' Juniors goal Here the the Juniors fought desperately desperately desperately des des- and were e holding their own t w well ll when Evans caught the ball on Howells Howell's fumble and the lines began surging surgin in the other direction Moss made three yards but fumbled and Robbins Robbins Rob Rob- bins captured the oval Time was called f. f at this point and the first half ended p Score 6 0 favor of Juniors E SECOND HALF F Howell fowell kicked off for twenty yards j but the ground was slippery and Telford t could d not return in time so the H. H S. S swooped down on t the e ball at th the Varsity twenty-five twenty yards line The Juniors now nowr r turned the tables table on their opponents by bya a series of well-managed well bucks bucl s Sprague gaining gailing ten yards followed by good gains by Tripp and Moss But success was followed by hy a fumble which was del deplorable deplorable de de- l especially after such good t ins Hedger gained four yards and fc was s tackled by Pembroke Robbins lost two but made for it Hedger Hedge up with a five yard rush Meakin fumbled but luckily for H. H S. S McGraw fell on the ball Meakin Young and Howell followed followed fol fol- lowed with gains and the ball was only fifteen or twenty yards from the desired position but the Juniors again summoned up their reserve strength and held their opponents firm They got the ball ballon on downs were making slow but sure gains when the inevitable fumble oc oc- H. H S. S again gain neared the goal and again did the Juniors hold them They got the ball again only to fumble it when Stanton lost no time in clutching clutching clutching clutch clutch- ing the coveted object Howell and Meakin again started their gains but on ona a punt the umpire awarded the ball to the Juniors' Juniors as a forward pass had been made U. U of or U. U gains were slow and they lost the ball on downs H. H S. S emulating emulating emulating em em- their example by failing to gain U. U of U. U ball Then Tripp crashed through centre for three yards Sprague did the same for three Moss twice bucked for five yards each time Tripp took it two more followed by five from irom Sprague The University boys were playing a great game but slowly the H. H S. S began to stop their attacks until presently they were completely stopped and the ball lost to H. H S. S Hedger tried to buck our tackle but he did not accomplish his purpose Robbins thought he would try tryan tryan tryan an end and worked it for four yards Young adding two more A cross criss s made only three yards and the next time no gain resulted The Juniors were gradually doing what their brother football football football foot foot- ball players had done before that is they stopped their plays and got the ball ballon on downs Sprague Tripp and Moss were doing good work when time was called Final score 6 0 in favor of U. U In spite of the decision of some of our k IJ learned friends that the the- Juniors were outplayed throughout we humbly ad- ad d vance the opinion that they were not It is probably true that that- the Juniors were not as active as might be during the first half but during the last they gave the H. H S. S boys as good as they sent It is very difficult to discover the merits of any team from a game played on a field covered with three inches of snow when a player cannot move without without without with with- out slipping and the ball so icy that it cannot be held in the quarter-back's quarter benumbed benumbed be be- numbed fingers We trust there thE willbe will willbe willbe be another game between these teams before long Meanwhile the victory is ours and it was fairly won |
