J B. B Swenson Mining the only member of the class not present elected at the meeting was unanimously valedictorian The Normal class of 93 also met to choose a valedictorian There were were- three in the field but Miss- Miss Emily Farnes Fames was elected In connection with this matter it is is- amusing to remember the w way y in which the Scientific class of 92 ele elected ted its rep rep- rep rep- There were but three members mem mem- bers bers White Neal and Riggs Each was willing to help elect one of the others but no one would call the meeting to order and preside over it Had any any anyone one done so he would have been elected permanent chairman because the two members composing the body of the house must act together and as it stood neither one would make or second a motion motion motion mo mo- tion in which he himself was concerned Finally l White and Riggs agreed to recognize Mr Neal as chairman and a motion was wa made and seconded that Mr W. W D. D Neal be elec elected ed class orator but Mr Neal would not take the chair and refused to put the question At last a motion was made and seconded that J. J P. P White be elected class orator This was wasa a question that Mr Neal was willing to put so he assumed the chair No sooner had he done so however than the name of W. W D. D Neal was wa substituted in the motion motion mo mo- tion for that of J. J P. P White and the chairman having put the original motion to the house was compelled to put the amendment electing himself valedictorian Parliamentary practice with a vengeance wasn't it |
