The only thing I 've seen I don 't enjoy is, instead of teaching, say like in philosophy, teachers will give us their own opinions. It cuts down certain beliefs to make their beliefs look better instead of their being impartial. " quite good. And being from Australia, I have a good basis for comparison. The teachers in the dance department are very concerned with the individual, which is nice to come across. Microfilms, current periodicals and reference books locked up in the offices of the Middle East Library should be made available to the students at all times. Due to some inexplicable carelessness, some books in the stacks have no corresponding cards in the 'Middle East public catalog. Furthermore, there are many errors on the cards themselves which ought to be corrected. Many new and relevant acquisitions remain uncataloged for unduly long times, and their existence unknown to the students who are forced to try to attain them through the long and sometimes costly process of many scholarly books, reprints and periodicals in the area of languages. This makes the Middle East Library appear to be out of date and out of touch with important developments in the Middle East, and prolongs the process of scholarly research. While we are aware of the Marriott Library's current financial difficulties, we feel the problems at the Middle East Library .discussed above may be easily resolved in interest of the students. In short, the problems of the Middle East Library are not financial, but organizational, and there is a definite lack of attention to the legitimate needs of the the long-ter- m faculty and students. So far, the Middle East Library's shortcomings have made research impossible for us; and unless,( conditions, improve the situation will deteriorate further. In order to maintain a strong graduate program in the field of Middle East studies, the following changes are necessary: The vault ought to be made accessible engineering involved with me. Regardless of your beliefs, drug use is still a criminal act. If you want that to be changed, work through the legislative system, don't abuse the cop who is doing hisher job by upholding the law. They must uphold the laws written, even the unpopular ones. No one I know in law enforcement is overly concerned with the person who "smokes a little dope" in the privacy of his or her own home, but "the big bust" at Alice's was of dealers. Even you would have to agree that people who sell drugs to teenagers are a menace, even if they themselves are teenagers. Just for your information, Alice's is a cesspool. If your brother, or anyone's brother, hangs out there, he is at least associating with . . . well, shall we call them undesirables, and at worst involved in a lot of other stuff he shouldn't be involved in. Another piece of misinformation in your article is the wrongful assumption that alternative music is the problem. Alternative to what? Every type of music has some sort of drug that could be tenuously attached to it (heavy metal-po- t, country-alcoho- l, etc.). Your accusations are simply , unfounded. Regardless of your personal beliefs about drugs, or my beliefs, or anyone's in law enforcement, they can (I say can, not will or always) disrupt lives and have serious Let fraternities act as they will Editor: This is in response to Jennifer Latham's letter (Oct. 30). Although I sympathize with her feelings about what occurs at university football games, I am tired of hearing about "unethical" actions of and sorority members. Although I fraternity the so-call- ed am confident my fraternity was not being referred to in the letter, I can only say that she should know what to expect while sitting in the "heathen" section of the stadium. I myself find it a "sight for sore eyes" to find normal, sober people surrounding me at the football game. Besides, enjoying a few "spirits" and killing brain cells couldn't possibly have affected the performance of the team during that particular game. On a final note, I don't think the current situation will change by people always referring to "bad" things that the Brothers do during games. If it was possible, we (the Brothers) would present a resolution to the U. Assembly to "create a new section reserved for the conservative, sober and lame football patrons." But, until then, remember what you're getting into when you decide to go in for free in the student section. consequences. Mark J.
