Udall is the son of a late s chief justice of the Arizona Su-preme Su-preme Court. Having attended Eastern Arizona College and later learning his L.L.B. degree from the c University of Arizona, he went on to establish himself as a lawyer. : In January 1961, after his reelection re-election to a fourth term as a Uni-ted Uni-ted States Representative from - Arizona's Second District, Mr. '-'Udall became the 37th Secretary ?-of the Interior. Shortly after taking office, Sec- - retary Udall's efforts were directed : at foreign affairs. In 1962 Sec. Udall represented the U.S. on a tour of Russian hydro-power installations. in-stallations. He later participated in a World Conservation Conference Confer-ence in Nairobi, Kenya, which was followed by visits to other African nations. He has also taken part in a cabinet economic mission to Japan. In co-operation with Mrs. Lyn-don Lyn-don B. Johnson, Sec. Udall created the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation which exemplified the American re-1 re-1 sponsibility to preserve the natural beauty of the U.S. f Sec. Udall, his wife, Ermalee, and ; their six children maintain homes ; in McClean, Virginia, and in Tuc-' Tuc-' son. |
