Is there any reason I can't fill in that blank with any term that I am feeling at the time? This song is unique among universities and colleges in that it is an expression of who we are at the U. That term could be anything that says something about you being an individual at the university. At any given time, you could be: woman, fan, man, grad, alumnus, greek, geek, student, engineer, sophomore, senior, your name, administrator, staff member, sportsman, sportswoman, trustee, Mormon, Catholic, Muslim, international student, father, mother. The U drafted the first memorandum of understanding with the Ute tribe in 2005 after the NCAA introduced new restrictions to the use of tribal names as mascots. That agreement expired in 2009. "One election was enough for me," said Anthony Minjarez, a senior in biology who was recently elected as the senator for the College of Science. Wootton, a senior in geology and political science, was unanimously elected as chair. Although Wootton enjoyed serving as a nonvoting member of academic senate last year, she said she is looking forward to using her newly earned vote to speak for students. "[The] Senate has a really important role representing students academically and ... when we're working with faculty and administrators," she said. As chair, Wootton will conduct student senate meetings, vote in academic senate and executive academic senate meetings and sit as a member of the Sustainable Campus Initiative Fund Allocation Committee and the ASUU president's executive cabinet. Wootton said she will spend her time as chair mak- ing sure student senators have more access to training options and faculty contacts. She also hopes to ramp up marketing efforts. "A lot of students don't know about Senate or about what Senate can do to help them specifically," Wootton said. She will appoint an ASUU senate vice-chair, treasurer, secretary and parliamentarian within the month. a.oligschlaeger@ chronicle.utah.edu @allisonoctober Top Tweets @ N ixo Three papers, two exams, a group project and a production of @NewsBreakUofU.
