Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE Thursday, January 30, 2014 NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS National Jurist magazine ranked the U's S.J. Quinney College of Law second in the country in providing clinical opportunities to its students. The law school emphasizes giving students an education similar to the medical school, with plenty of hands-on experience. Yale Law School is the only law school in the country that surpasses the U in this area. The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering elected Gianluca Lazzi, chair of the department of electrical and computer engineering, to its College of Fellows. The college is made up of the top two percent of biological and medical engineers in the country. Lazzi attended the University of Rome and received his Ph.D from the U in 1998. Salt Lake County Aging Services presented Lily Alavi, an instructor in the department of languages and literature, an award in recognition of her work with the senior community. Alavi teaches a service learning class with students studying multiple languages. Resident advisors reported a smell in the Sage Point 8io dorms. U Police arrived at the scene after midnight and discovered approximately 2.5 grams of the controlled substance, said U Police Sgt. Garth Smith. Alk:1■11 'T Stolen motorcycle recovered A stolen motorcycle was recovered by U Police near 422 S. 1200 E. on Jan. 24, Smith said. The 2003 Honda VGA was allegedly stolen in Salt Lake City in Aug. 2013. There was no reported damage. Criminal mischief in Park Building A rock was thrown through a window of the Park Building on Presidents Circle on Friday. A custodian at the building reported the incident to U Police at 6:09 a.m., Smith said. There are no suspects in the case. Stolen vehicle by law building A 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser was allegedly stolen near the College of Law building on Jan. 21. The car's owner is a female student at the U. She reported the car missing near 11:30 a.m. U Police suspect the car was impounded by SLC Parking Enforcement because it was parked in a "residents parking only" designation, Smith said. AT NIGHT, HOW CAN YOU DREAM OF RETIREMENT? Fight at bus stop A man and woman had a verbal altercation at a bus stop near Primary Children's Medical Center over which bus to board. The fight occurred on Jan. 21, and no injuries were reported. The woman involved was arrested on unrelated warrants. Neither of the parties involved were U students or faculty members.
