Sacramento Kings 7 p.m. $7.75 - $295 EnergySolutions Arena WEDNESDAY lright, Richard Sherman, we hear you. After the self-centered, egotistical speech you gave after your team won the NFC Championship on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers en route to a Super Bowl berth, we realize you may or may not be the best cornerback in the league. I actually like Sherman and enjoy seeing the passion he has for football. His claim to be the best corner is warranted, as 49ers' QB Colin Kaepernick ignored his side of the field nearly the entire game Sunday. When Kaepernick did throw to Sherman's side, it was obvious Sherman won the battle there. But before Sherman goes into the Super Bowl with a hot head, I think someone else may have something to say about the Seahawks' chances of bringing home the title — Peyton Manning. A and Clarifications In a photo that ran under the headline, "Utah seniors prove that experience is key" Lucy Yates was misidentified as Stephanie Jolley. In the Jan. 15 story, "Bookworms unite to eat bagels, enjoy modern lit." the book "Unbroken" was misidentified as a novel. It is a work of non-fiction. Sports Editor Let's start off with the obvious. Manning has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league for the past decade. He led the Indianapolis Colts to nine straight postseason appearances from 2002-2010 and won the Super Bowl in 2007. Manning was also named league MVP four times in his career, and it would be a mockery if he did not get his fifth one this season. Things went downhill for Manning two years ago, though, as it seemed Father Time was finally catching up with him. His neck was giving him problems, which eventually led to four surgeries. Not only did it look like his time in the league was nearing an end, but it almost seemed over. So much so that the Colts, the team Manning brought out of mediocrity, decided to let him go and invest all their time into quarterback Andrew Luck. Fast forward two years, and here we are. Manning is about to compete in the third Super Bowl of his career, this time for the Denver Broncos. Manning and co. are corning off of a historic season, as Manning set records for most touchdowns and passing yards thrown in a single season. Not only that, but the Bronco offense set an NFL record for most points scored by a team in a single season. Simply put, Manning has brought the Broncos to new heights. Seemingly unstoppable at times, the Broncos were expected to beat Torn Brady and the New England Patriots in Sunday's AFC Championship and did exactly that. Manning was simply fantastic, as he threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns. It's hard to bet against this guy anyway, but this offense is on a roll. Seattle is a great team and has an amazing defense. There is definitely a chance the Broncos can be slowed down. If I had to put money on this game though, I would not bet against Peyton Manning at this point. Richard Sherman may be one of the best corners in the league right now, but Manning is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game. Sorry, Seahawks, you are the sexy pick in sports right now, and I would love to see a win for Seattle, but I'm going with the Broncos. g.adams@chronicle.utah.edu Follow us on Twitter: @TheChrony jElle Nov fork Zimerl ACROSS 1" 4 38 41 14 43 Ironfisted ruler sandwich maker 46 *Tangy breakfast 49 *Sheriff's insignia, 52 Sounds from Santa 53 fashioned way" each asterisked the spring 24 clue Privy to Shot from an air gun Burns black 26 56 57 59 29 33 34 65 66 PUZZLE BY PAULA GAMACHE 3 4 * Packers' 5 happily 22 6 Prep schools: Abbr. 26 Wind instruments M.A. follow-up, 27 "The Lord of the Rings" creature Grandiose 29 proposal 7 Neglect to Part of many a 30 Shakespearean act Carbon-dating 8 Observed estimation 9 Suffix meaning 37 Show disdain for, in a way Shoulder muscle, io Singer Streisand 38 " for short 11 *Recover, as lost 39 Lacking in variety 40 *Tommy's game 12 Jennifer of 1 Where webs may accumulate Some appliances, for short love 2 Galoshes ao-with ffp C5' Cancer (June 22-July 22) Opt to be with a close friend or associate.
