Bynum was finally traded last week to the Chicago Bulls for Luol Deng and some draft picks. The Bulls made the deal for salary cap purposes and waived Bynum shortly after acquiring him. Being waived was a hard landing for a player who has been in a free fall over the past few years. Two years ago, Bynum was viewed as one of the best centers in the league. He had won multiple championships with the Lakers and at times, seemed unstoppable. Although Bynum was impressive, there was still one center in the league who was considered superior — Dwight Howard. Every team wanted him, including Bynum's Lakers. Los Angeles ended up making a trade for him and Bynum eventually ended up in Philadelphia prior to the 20122013 campaign. "Pretty" thing to 39 If I ever had the capabilities and talents to play in the NBA, I would like to think I'd do whatever it took to stay in the league. Bynum was in the league. He had made it—he had all the potential in the world and threw it all away. Of course you should love what you do for a job, and that is essential to happiness in life, but think of an average person. Do they always love their jobs? Do they always enjoy what they do? Maybe some do, but I'm sure a lot do not. And not all of us are making millions of dollars to just sit on the bench. For that much money, I would do a lot of things — I'll leave it at that. Bynum may be a good guy. He may have had good intentions throughout his career. I see him, though, as a lazy, ungrateful NBA player who has robbed teams of their money. Hopefully he turns his career around, but if not, I'd like to see him go into a different profession and see how much he dislikes basketball then. Today's Birthday: This year your focus remains on your daily life and on your relationships. You'll have a goal in mind and, with endurance, you can make it happen. Don't focus on the obstacles; instead, focus on the end results. If you are single, in the next six months, you could meet someone of significance. 38 20 25 12 Horoscopes 35 are generally 22 11 2 28 • No. 1209 7 famously puddy The buzz surrounding Bynum going to the Sixers was through the roof. Philly fans were excited, as was Bynum — at least it seemed that way. Bynum had been known to have injuries, but was coming off a year in which he played most of the season. Accordingly, it was a little bit of a shock to Sixers fans when he started the season on the bench. The fans just had to keep waiting and waiting, and waiting some more. Eventually, the season ended and Bynum had not played. He then entered free agency, and although he was once viewed as an elite center, the wasted year with Philadelphia made teams wary to sign him. Eventually, the Cays took a chance. 14 22 31 say, with a cherry 64 Asst. Before Bynum was traded from the Cays last week, he was suspended by the organization for behavior detrimental to the team — Bynum had essentially indicated that he hated basketball and didn't want to play. In essence, during his year in Philadelphia, he stole money from the Sixers and gave the fans and organization false hope that he could bring the team out of mediocrity and be the player he once was. I'm not just blaming him for being hurt, because that isn't entirely his fault, but his will to play is definitely questionable. Bynum seemed ready to play multiple times in that injury-riddled season, but somehow was set back by doing stupid things such as going flamenco dancing and bowling. I'm not seven feet tall, but how does one seriously injure themselves bowling? Come on now It is hard for me to understand someone losing the will to play professional basketball, mainly because I love the sport so much. graduate... #LifeGoals II @DianaGKeIIy26 DIANA KELLY Since when does trax play utah man as it approaches the stadium? #uofu #GoUtes 11 January |
