Show I mt .1 L V - , ' " 1 " 1 '" Dr. Richard D. Rieke, formerly chairman of the Department of Speech will assume the chairmanship of the newly merged Department Depart-ment of Communications. Texan joins music staff Ramiro Cortes has been appointed composer-in-residence and associate professor of music at the University for the 1972-73 school year. The appointment, effective Sept. 1, was approved by the University Institutional Council. Dr. Newell B. Weight, chairman of the University Department of Music, says the Texas-born composer brings "an excellent record" to Utah from the University of Southern California, where he has served as associate professor of theory and composition since 1967. "Mr. Cortes has won many prizes and has composed considerable f music which has been performed by outstanding organizations," Dr. Weight says. Mr. Cortes earned his master's degree from Julliard School of Music in 1962. I |
