Show Half-hour runs f Shuttlebus a 'wonderful thing but needs some Improvement By CLIFFORD L. WILLIAMS Chronicle Staff "The University's Shuttlebus System is about the most wonderful thing that has happened to the University for the students," said Albert Feller, bus driver for the Salt Lake City Transit Corporation. While riding the University's Shuttle Bus, various students who use the bus system gave their opinions of it. The shuttlebus serves approximately 175-200 students a day on its daily campus route. Fifteen percent of its riders are residents of the University Village. "I like this route and set-up a lot more than the bus system downtown," noted Mr. Feller. The University students are more mature and understanding un-derstanding with the bus driver. There are usually no complaints about being too early or late on your route," he noted. "The students at the University respect the bus drivers more when the driver is courteous and treats them well, which I hope that I'm doing for the students," said Mr. Feller. "The attitudes of the students are a lot better than crabby old ladies downtown who complain about almost everything you do," he added. "The great thing that I appreciate about the shuttlebus system is the overall convenience of it," said Steve Jackson, Univers ty sen.or. Be des the fact that there's no fighting for a parking place you get the convenience of practically being dropped off at your front door," he noted. "The only real disadvantage of the bus system is the fact that the bus does not run regu arly enough said Brent Reese, University junior. I d like to see the bus system run more frequently and even continued for people that attend night school, he noted. The only problem that I can see within the system is the fact that more people need to know about it and the fact that it exists," said Mr. Feller. "Most students aren't aware of the schedule and time that the bus arrives and leaves. What is needed is more advertising in the papers on campus and more publicity to persuade people to ride the bus or at least try it out," he added. "More people would ride the bus system if it had more communication with the people and expanded ex-panded its service," noted Mr. Reese. "People that live up in the East Village have to walk through the mud and snow usually to reach the bus route," he added. Making frequent half-hour runs around the campus, University students may purchase either monthly, weekly and day passes. |
