He said that law enforcement officers are held to a higher standard then other individuals, for if they stray from the tenants of the code Kf ethics their license to work as law enforcement officers is taken from them. In conclusion he said, "Police officers are the most visible leaders in the community." After Wallentines remarks the program called for presentation of awards. The following cadets received honors: Bryan Wiersma - High Academic Award; Dustin Cheshire - Firearms Award; Dustin Cheshire Achiever Award. Wayne Embleton introduced the last award given, the Cedi F. Gurr Award - a special honor sponsored by the Roosevelt Police Department in conjunction with UBATC, presented for the first time to a cadet. ShaJon Gurr Hansen, the daugh terofthe late Chief Gurr presented the award by first acknowledging the tope of man, and law enforcement officer her father was and the contributions be made to the community he served. "He saved lives, he put criminals away, he even delivered a few babies ... be gave aU he had every day ofhis life for 27 years," Hansen said addingthat the cadets selected one of their class whobest demonstrated the attributes shown by Chief Gurr as recipient of the award.
