Backus and L. Matthew Holgate TEMPLE MARRIAGE-Mar- ci have chosen to be married March 8 in the Salt Lake Temple. BackusHolgate Marti L. Parfcn and L Matthew Holgate will be married March 8 in the Salt Lake Temple. Afterwards a wedding breakfast will be held at the Joseph Bipirti Memorial Building. That evening they will be honored at a reception in Orem. A second reception will be given on March 9 at Seven VanWagoner Oaks Reception Center in Sandy. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary S. Backus, Orem, graduated from Orem High School where she served on the Seminary Council, and has attended Utah Valley State College where she was president ofLamba Delta Sigma. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laurence F. (Bud) Holgate, formerly of Altamont graduated from West Jordan High School and has T?i'pV College and Utah Valley State College where he served on the Institute Council. He fulfilled an LDS mission in the Argentina Bahia BlancaTrelew Mission. The couple will make their home in Murray. Kate Young and Mike Van Wagoner have selected Sat. March 9, 1996 to be married in the Bountiful Temple. Their children, David, John, Korinne, Jay, Aaron, Laura, Jonathan and parents, Dean and Coene Bagley of Lapoint and Jay and Maxine Van Wagoner ofVernal will honor them at an open house at the Lapoint LDS Chapel March 14 from 9 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend. Darwin Kulland and the late Donna Kulland and Nathan Cox son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Cox announce their marriage Saturday March 9, 1996. A program will be at 8:00 p.m. Loren J and Zella Pike, just recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary at a Family dinner hosted by their children. They were married January 25, 1936 in Vernal. They had three children, Clifford L and (Connie) Pike, Whiterocks; Sandy and James Neapoto, Ft. Duchesne; Darla and (Kirk) Draney, Vernal; also 1 1 grandchildren. WellsMcKenna Stacey Wells, and Troy Mckenna were married on March 1, 1996 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A reception was held for them on the same evening in Draper, Utah. Troy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. DeNile McKenna of Roosevelt, Utah. Stacey i the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R. Wells of Draper, Utah. February 22 Francisco Santio and Jayleen Checora, girl. and Dana February ritt Stubba, girl 16-Ke- 22-B- SUFFRAGE EXHIBIT --Georgia Barker points out interesting historical facts contained in the Utah Women's suffrage exhibit now on display at the Duchesne CountyRoosevelt City library. The pictorial exhibit has many interesting historical accounts that may surprise you. For instance, in the town of Kanab in 1912 the City Fathers became the City Mothers when male politicians jokingly nominated their wives for their city council seats. The men wanted their jobs back, but the women remained in office; getting rid of gambling, passing a liquor ordinance, prohibiting livestock from roaming through town, and building a flood protection dike. SCHOLARSHIPS: 's- Academic ( .Sterling Scholar Area music teachers as well as interested musicians are invited to attend a Mini Convention presented by members of the Utah Music Teachers Association on Saturday, March 9, at the Uintah High School Choral Boom in Vernal. The convention will last from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and lunch will be served. Included in the days activities will be workshops on teacher certification, a masterclass at which four local students will v s " perform, discus- sion ofAchievement in Music which ia a graded program for music students, and a concert and lecture by Sandra Peterson. Peterson has degrees in piano, music theory and piano pedagory from BYU and the University of Utah. She has performed on the Temple Square concert series and has appeared as a soloist with various state orchestras. Her lecture, Begin with the End in Mind," was well received at the UMTA State Convention held last fall. Participants do not need to be members of UMTA to attend the convention.
