Centennial exhibit on Women scheduled for Duchesne library Set aside the evening of February 27, 1996 for the opening of the traveling exhibit: Utah Women in Action: Visions. Views and Voices. This Centennial prqject will be at the Roosevelt CityDuchesne County library, 70 West Lagoon in Roosevelt, through March 1996. Developed by the Weber County League or Women Voters, exhibit tells the this of Utah women getting the stay to right vote in 1870, losing it in 1887, regaining it in the 1895 Constitutional Convention and up to 1920 when women nationally received the right to vote. The panel highlights women who have made significant inputs in politics, lives and communities over the years. It was during March 1896, 100 years ago that the Constitutional Convention was discussing the pros and cons of giving Utah women the right to vote in the Constitution. Significant groups argued that Utah would become a "freak state" ty granting woman suffrage, and it might harm our chances of gaining statehood. Utah women have been at the forefront many times, not Just locally but at national levels, in a variety of endeavors. Too much of our Utah history has been silent an the important role that women have played in our political heritage. In addition, a two-pan- el targeted to secondary students will be available through the school district! during this timeframe. The League of Women Voters will be coordinating this prqject. This can be a very affective teaching tool for classroom diaeuaaion throughout the year. This prqject has bean made possible by grants from the COfiTS Utah Centennial Commission, Utah Humanities following: Council, Ruth and Great Selection John Bamberger Foundation, George and Dolores Eccles Foundation, Swanson Foundation, Weber County Centennial Committee and the American Association of Univeraity Woman (AAUW) Foundation. The exhibit opened on January 5, 1996 in Weber County with avsral prominent women on fho program, including LA. Governor Owns Walker, Cleo Atkin, and Utah Supreme Court Justice Christine Durham.
