Show T Bsism SUsktfailhi Thursday, IVIE Primary elections in Duchesne County are only several days away, scheduled for Tuesday, September 14. Voters in the County will be casting votes for candidates ' in several elections, one of these the primary race for sheriff. Three Duchesne County Deputies are seeking the position to be vacated there are several areas which could be changed for the better. Before expanding on these areas, the candidate emphasized their relationship to the problems of financing any changes. Capwell said his first goal if elected, would be to provide the residents of Duchesne County with the highest caliber of law enforcement. Secondly, and related to the first, this service must be the most cost effective few the tax dollars by Sheriff George Marett, two of these running in the Democratic Party. Gerry Ivie and Merrill "Chico" Capwell are the democratic candidates seeking the position of Sheriff. Both deputies have been with the Duchesne County Sheriffs Department for several years, Capwell since 1974 and Ivie for nearly six years. Capwell served two years with the Ute Tribe Police before coming to Duchesne County. He moved to Duchesne County from Western New York State. He served from 1962-6- 6 in the United States Air Force. He attended College at the University of Buffalo where he studied Business Administration. Hs has also taken numerous courses in law enforcement through Weber State College. He said it is one of the few types of law enforcement where the voter has a right to change those in office every four years if unsatisfied with the service. Fatal accident claims life of Vernal woman A fetal accident last Thursday morning claimed the life of Jennifer Joy Harrison Bentley of Vernal, as the car she was driving was struck from behind, pushing her car into an oncoming vehicle and pinning her between the two. ld According to a police report, Bentley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Harrison and wife of Roger Bentley, was driving a 1975 Buidr Regal on West highway 40, when she attempted to make a left turn. He said he would like to see some changes hi both administration and operation of the office. Deputy Ivie said he would like to get the filing system onto the county computer for improved efficiency in information . , These drugs and paraphernalia were confiscated last Thursday, September 2, after a search of an oil rig site. The search was conducted at the request of Gulf Oil who owned the property. Gulf employees were not working at the site at the time. CONFISCATED! The program was used again last week by Gulf on one of their sites. The investigation of the site resulted in the confiscation of several ounces of marijuana and assorted drugs and paraphernalia. According to Duchesne County Deputy Sheriff Merrill Capwell Anthony F. DiVirgilio and Willie Newman, along with Michael R. Naumowich, special investigator for Gulf Oil Corporation, arrived at a Guff site f or a routine inspection. DiVirgilio, who heads Investiga- tive Resources, an independent firm, said they arrived at the scene and notified the employees and contractor about Gulfs rules and regulations prohibiting drugs, alcohol, or firearms on Guff property. Anthony said the workers are informed of these regulations not only at the time of the investigation but when they first enter the site. "Gulf follows through one step further to make sure there is compliance, said DiVirgilio. He said they went to the Gulf property with a Gulf representative and requested a search of the property and private belongings such as lockers and vehicles. With signed permission the search began. Dogs Primary election has candidates for congress With the formation of a third H atonal district in Utah, County voters are this year faced with a primary election decision regarding the selection of a republican candidate for that position. Ray Beckham and Howard Nielson are seeking the right to run in the general election on the republican ticket. Nielson said he is familiar with budgets and has a knowledge of how to cut budgets. He recognizes the major concerns of the Uintah Basin to be water and energy development. He said a number of agricultural concerns must also be answered. Nielson has stated during his campaign that the protection of wilderness areas is desireable, but he added that we must insure enough land for grazing. He said there is also a need to work on interest rates and unemployment. Regarding the Central Utah Project, Nielson said he would like to see as much local control as possible to determine that as much water as possible comes back to the area. I believe this country ia in trouble," said Nielson. He said he wants to work for the people of the Uintah Basin. The other candidate, Ray Beckham, expressed his concerns regarding taxes during the campaign. According to Capwell the call came in last Thursday morning, September 2, at 8:30 a.m. from Mike Naumowich. He was informed they had an incident at Gulf Property west of gang-buster- s. Cedarview. Arrested were Donald Joseph ' and Scott, Yakima, Washington,' Continued on page 19 Roosevelt Myton community progress board lists goals, rules Shirley Ann Kellum, Myton Community Progress chairperson, would like to announce the goals and guidelines of the progress committee as structured by the Utah Community Progress committee. The first projected goal for the 1982-8- 3 Myton Community Progress will be the Myton Cemetery, alcoholism and drug abuse program for the Myton elementary school and emergency medical service training program, and health and zone laws with these ordinances being enforced. Community Progress is supported and by fund raising projects contributions: all funds are under the control of the progress chairperson, Shirley Kellum, and the Myton City Council approval. There will not be any person or committee reimbursed for any funds which they chooae to spend for MytoA Community Progress monies, without the prior approval of Shirley Kellum and at least three members of Myton City Council.
