J Crop acreage, livestock survey scheduled planted acreages and livestock numbers will be developed from a major nationwide survey to be launched in late May and early June by the U. S. Department of Agriculture. The program will be directed in this State by the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting Service headed by W. Grant Lee, Agricultural Statistician in Charge. The goal of the survey, Mr. Lee said, is to provide farmers and ranchers with current reliable and impartial information to assist them with production and marketing plans. Present farm prices and production costs, the economy, and export situation have created more than the usual number of uncertainties in agriculture, Mr. Lee pointed out. Producers are especially vulnerable at times like these without the market stabilizing influence provided by official crop and livestock estimates. Rumors and trade guesses can upset delicate marketing situations. THE SURVEY using a representative sample of agriculture, will include personal interviews with some 70,000 producers, and several thousand livestock operators, and mail responses from thousands of other farmers. The survey will be the basis for a report to be issued by USDA June 30, estimating spring planted acreage! and acreages for harvest for major crops both Estimates of 1976 - it 4-Whe- 2-- Wheel Drives Drives el Half Tons Jimmy's Tons -- -- A One Tons Spring Is Here!!! uiriray Doflor (So. The cooperation of producers contacted is essential In pulling together a reliable act of estimates for use by all farmers and ranchers. , Mom Lake Electric Association purchases the bulk of their wholesale power from the Upper Colorado River Storage Project (USBR). For several years Moon Lake was able to purchase all of their energy needs from USBR and because. Moon Lake only used approximately 95 load factor, the rate waa very favors Me at 5.2 mills per kilowatt hour. As USBR needed the energy to meet prior contract commitments they withdrew energy from Moon Lake and required Moon Lake to limit their purchases to their contract commitment. In April 1973, Moon Lake had to reduce the energy purchased from USBR from 9! load factor to 70 load factor which, in effect, increased the wholesale power cost In April 1976 Moon Lake had to further reduce their energy purchases from 70 load factor to 58.2 rate to 6.2 . load factor. This raised 'mills per kilowatt hour 'oh that 'power' purchased from USBR. In addition the kilowatt hours no longer available from te Right-of-wa- USBR had to be purchased from Utah Power & Light Company at a rate near 9 mills per Kwh. As a result Moon Lake's wholesale power coat increased by Mora Lake is trying to absorb as much of this increased cost as possible and will delay increasing the rates until it can no longer be absorbed. Moon Lake official! stated that 18. although electric power rates will increase very rapidly during the next year because of wholesale power cost increases, they want to point out that their rates have been very favorable during the time when moat utilities have had extremely high rates. Moon Lake has not experienced these high rates. For example, in 1974 Moon Lake had a cheaper wholesale power rate and thus a 4 the cheaper retail rate, than did 95 REA Cooperatives in the nation. other - v ys withdrawn on Kaiparowits All right-of-wa- applications by South- y ern California Edison, Arizona Public Service and Kaiser Engineers related to the proposed Kaiparowits power project in Kane County now have been withdrawn by the companies. In making the announcement, Paul L. Howard, Bureau of Land Management state director in Utah, said 28 applications by these companies will be removed from the land ownership records at BLM state offices in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Sacramento and Reno. The cases are officially closed, he added. These rights-of-wa- y were associated with the Kaiparowits coal mining project as well as the proposed power plant and supporting activities. Involved were rights-of-wafor power lines, waterlines, conveyor belts, and access roads to radio and microwave station sites and other facilities, Mr. Howard said.
