Olsen Ruthford John Mathews, age 76, of Roosevelt, died April 7, 200 1 in the Uintah Basin Medical Center. He was bom November 21, 1924 in Bluebell to Zeary John and Beulah Jane Anderson Mathews. He married Ruth Bills September 30, 1947 in Riverton. Their ma rriage waa solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 5, 1969. Ruthford served in the 6 Marine Division during World War II, in the Okinawa campaign and Japan Occupational Forces. He waa a lifelong rancher and worked about 13 years aa a heavy equipment operator for Duchesne County. He loved to work and keep busy. He kept a neat yard and shop and always had some prqject going, such as rebuilding old farm equipment or makings Christmas toy for the grandchildren. He also eqjoyed getting out to see the sights and history of the area. vHe was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter-da-y Saints and had served in the Elders and High Priest leadership. He and Ruth served three Welfare Service Missions in the Employment Office and Cannery. He eiyoyed temple service and went to the temple as often as he could.
