Greg Timothy made a total of 23 points against the Eagles- and Denny Thacker came up with 22 points. Feb. 24 was the Monday, American Legion Oratory contest at Altamont. Sandra Bleazard won first place and Tawna Mitchell won second . place In the school. Thursday was the District Oratory contest at Roosevelt. Sandra Bleazard won first place In the district also. We are very proud of her. Sandra will travel to Magna this week to compete In the Region Competition. We wish her the best of luck. i Paula Pierce and Denny Thacker were elected Mr. and Miss School Spirit at AHS last PREFERRED Denny Thacker was named Preferred Bey, and Paula Pierre, Preferred Girl, at Altamont last week. - Altamont girl named to state FHA post Miss Tawna Mitchell was chosen State FHA 4th at the convention In Salt Lake, February 28 and March 1. She Is active In the FHA unit and other school activities. Tawna Is a sophomore vice-presid- at week. Tawna Mitchell . . . named to state FHA post for 1988. Merralee Hansen earned the Betty Crocker homemaker of Tomorrow award at AHS. She took a test earlier In the year with other Senior home ec. students. These tests are taken In schools all over the nation. An award Is given to the girl with the highest score in each school. Merralee Is now eligible for state and national awards which are also given on the basis of these tests. Last week the girls In the Larlette club at AHS held an election for Outstanding Larlette. Joan Tidwell was chosen. She Is a Senior this year and Is historian of the Pep club. We chose Joan because of her school spirit her cheerfulness, and her Inspiration. February 28 through March 1 was State FHA Convention. Six girls represented us out at Salt Lake. They were Mayla Mitchell, Carol Goodrich, Annette Bolton, Vickie Walker, and Tawna Mitchell. We wish to congratulate Tawna. She won the election for 4th vice president of the State FHA. Sandra Fisher will be attending the Science Symposium March 5, 6, 7. We wish her the best of luck with her research paper. AHS. Other girls from the Altamont Chapter at the convention were Vickie Walker, Sandy Tucker, Mayla Mitchell, national reporter, Annette Bolton, and Carol Goodrich. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Kitchen and children spent the week end at Orem and Payson with their parents. Ward Reunion was held Feb. It was forty three years since Ballard Ward was organized. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sprouse have moved Into Ballard Ward. We wish to welcome them here. the Students home over weekend were Millie Cook, USU. Millie Is Fred Codes daughter, Sue Ann Betts, from Steven Henegar Business College, she Is Grant Betts daughter. Pauline Code, BYU, Pauline Is Jack Cooks daughter. Word has been received by Tellntha Rasmussen, that her son Max has graduated from boot training at Fort Ord, Calif, and will now receive several weeks of special training before being shipped to Vietnam. A pink and blue shower was held for Mrs. Jerry Ross at her mother In laws home, Thel-d- a Ross. There was a large crowd In attendence and many beautiful gifts were received. Freda Hunt spent two weeks at the home of her daughter, Joan Haslem. --TLynn Haslem family has been called Into the Indian Mission at Whiterocks. Wayne Lee, who has been here convalescing from wounds received in Vietnam, will return to a hospital In Denver, Colo, where he will receive further surgery. Wayne Is married to the former Karen 22. They visited their daughter Wendy and family and spent sometime with a friend of Edward's, Randy Porter, who Is leaving on a Mission and also with their nephew Elder Steven Clark . They all went to the airport to see hint leave for his Mission In Scotland. Elder Steven Clark son of Norma Rae and Norman Clark, Arizona. Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Freston spent 2 weeks in Salt Lake and all avallble time with their grandson. Mrs. Farnsworths parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Herbert, Salt Lake also attended the wrestling meet to watch their grandson, Ricky Farnsworth, wrestle. Floyd Ross had a heart attack Feb. 28. Three boys from West junior high who participated In the junior high school wrestling meet at Vernal Saturday were Joe Rasmussen who won 1st place; and Jack Tomilson and Jeff Winn who took second place In their weight. Mrs. Georgia Thompson, Mrs. Theora Mecham and Mrs. Della Nyberg teachers of the Lapolnt school accompanied the 3rd, 4th, Sth and 6th grades to Vernal on Monday, where they visited Mr. Thorness Photography shop the museum, Coco-Co- la plant, Post office, Board of Education Supply Office. They took sack lunches and enjoyed it at the Old School house. The mumps have been a very popular disease In Lapolnt this winter both with adults and children. Bartley Morrill. 6th grade student at Whiterocks won a first place ribbon on his entry on yeasts and molds and a trophy as the champion of all the entries In this division. Tommy Was hi urn won a blue ribbon In the high school di vision for his exhibit on the Uintah Eocene Vertebrate fossils and a trophy for the best project In earth science. Bruce Brighton, Douglas Riding and Bruce Uoyd also won a blue ribbon and a trophy with their exhibit "Applying Binary converters to computers" "Diode Switching" won a white ribbon for Delbert Merkley, Charles Ha maker and Orlie Rachele In the Physics division. Kenna Dee Hartle left Friday morning withagroupof FHA girls from Union high school to attend a FHA Convention at Salt Lake City to be held at the University of Utah. Brad Huber, Kathy Daniels three students of the 6th grade Lapolnt school took their exhibits over to the Science Fair at Vernal at the Jr. high school, Thursday and Friday. They won blue ribbons on their exhibits. Mr. and Mrs. Travis Nell-se- n and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Horrocks and children visited the Clinton Neil son family In Heber on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lee left Saturday morning for Denver to take their son Wayne back after a 30 day furlough. Wayne wUl enter the Denver hospital Mar. 1 Sunday for surgery. He was wounded In Vietnam. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burton, Craig, Colo and the Hardln-ger- s, Roosevelt, Mrs. Della Burton is a great grandmother, also Ell Smith a great grandfather. The Burtons are former residents of Lapolnt. Jim Allen, Salt Lake visited the Floyd Perrys on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wall entertained at a Birthday dinner In honor of her mother, Mrs. Adrian Kumps birthday last Thursday at Vernal. Ralayne Huber, who is a student at a beauty school In Salt Lake, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Huber recently. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hartle visited his brother Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hartle In Salt Lake City the weekend, and attended the Jimmie Dean slnw at the Valley Music Hall. Mrs. Karen Price and baby, Denver, Colo., have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lee and her brother Wayue Lee and wife for the past Thursday evening second ward held their Hue and Gold banquet, declaring It a huge success, with approximately 130 present. Den mothers are Hope Shaw, Carol Bellon, Valate Alla Gee, Thatcher, Teddy Swain, Pat Garrett and Reva Workman. Dale Anderson scout Committeemen are master. Dave Rasmussen. After a short program, achievement awards were presented and Pat Garrett received a potted plant for leadership. Mrs. Marie Miller went to Salt Lake with daughters Ori-enWilson and Orville Brown during the week where she remained for minor surgery on her eye. Mrs. Miller returned home Friday. Altamont high school purchased a painting that won a school contest and she has been selling them ever since.
