Show ft TABIONA g $ Mrs. Thelma D. Nye Lightning Strikes, Party To Honor Killing 2 Heifers Former Bishopric Lightning strikes hard in the month of October, it seems. A short electrical storm a week ago, with very little moisture falling in the valley, was laden with electricity. One bolt struck two heifers belonging to Burnell Turn-bokilling both of them. They were in a pasture belonging to Farland Jones. The same bolt knocked Mrs. Heber Jones to her knees, as she was standing on her porch, a short distance from where the cattle were killed. Mrs. Jones had to crawl back into the house as the shock was so great that she was unable to rise to her feet. The lightning also put out some of the townspeoples electric lights. . MR. AND MRS. ED GILES (Carolyn Pilling) pledged vows September 29 at the McCune School of Music and Art in Salt Lake City. The new bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pilling of Hanna, and parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Ferrus Giles, also of Hanna. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Willis Moon of the Hanna LDS Ward. II in the Tabiona ward house at 1 p.m., and the dance in the Tabiona School gym at 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. ADDA Crystal Wilcken Reception Will Fete Newlyweds A shower and wedding dance for Mr. and Mrs. Max Giles who were married Wednesday of this week in the Salt Lake Temple will be held at Tabiona Saturday, Oct. 27. The shower will be held Mr. and Mrs. Ferrus Giles and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Carey of Los Angeles enjoyed a chicken supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Defa Saturday1 evening of last week. HOUND DOG PARTY HONORS GUEST SATURDAY Mrs. Vernon Moon feted her daughter and friends to a Hound Dog party in celebration of Dottie Anns 13th birthday on Saturday Hound afternoon, Oct. 13. The Dog motif was carried out in all the games and decorations. Delightful refreshments were served to the following girls: Joanne Rhoades, Afton Wagstaff, Ange-lin- e Lewis, Betty Jo Young, and Sharon Giles. The Hanna Ward Relief Society quilted a quilt for Mrs. Jack Lee and painted curtains for the kitchen in the church house at their work meeting on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Leonal Webb is in the Heber Hospital where she submitted to major surgery last Friday. We join in wishing her a complete and quick recovery from her illness. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hackford have been in Salt Lake City where he has been receiving treatment for his eyes. Their children have been visiting their gradparents, Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Lazenby. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carlile and family were Heber visitors Saturday where they consulted the dentist. Mrs. Jessie Maxwell and Mrs. Thelma Nye were Heber visitors Thursday. Wiliam Rhoades of Heber has been visiting at the home of his Mr. and daughter and Mrs. Fay Lefler. Among the visitors to the auction in Roosevelt Saturday were Ferron Gines and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gines, and Ted Nye and son, Carl. vaStudents enjoyed a two-da- y cation from school last week, as the teachers journeyed to Salt Lake City to attend the UEA convention. Mr. Vernon Moons fifth and sixth graders enjoyed a short pine nut hunting outing one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Casper of Salt Lake City were recent visitors in Tabiona. Mrs. Bernice Van Tassell and family of Kearns were recent callers in Tabiona. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Lewis motored to Salt Lake City during the ' week. A party was enjoyed during Primary last week. Any- son-in-la- llanna Scouts First To Contribute Money For Home Hanna, Troop 265, with Ted Wilckens as scoutmaster, is the first scouting unit in the Duchesne Scout District of the Utah National Parks to submit its unit contribution to the new Scouting Center being built in Provo, stated Floyd Loveridge, Scout Executive. Names of the Hanna boys contributing to the building will be placed under glass on parchment in the foyer of the new building, explained Mr. Loveridge. of the Executive By action Board controlling group of the Council, each cub pack, scout troop and explorer post has been given the responsibility of having unit projects .to earn their assignments for the building fund. Unit assignments are based on $1.00 per registered boy and $5 per registered adult. Included in the New Utah National Parks Council Scouting Center will be office space for the evecutive staff of the council, a conference room, a general office, adequate room for the keeping of each boys advancement and tenure records and a supply department. Cost of the Scout Center has been estimated at $65,000. B. Workman. President and Mrs. Arwell Pierce of Mesa, Arizona were guest speakers. Mr. Pierce is president of the Mesa LDS Temple and the parents of Mrs. Elmer Moon. They talked on Family Relationship. Other talks were given by Mary-ett- a Moon and Jerry Moon, and Earl Jensen gave the closing prayer. TOMMY APPAH SHOWS FILMS TO GROUPS Tommy Appah showed his films to members of the American Legion and Auxiliary last Thursday and- - everyone evening enjoyd them very much. A lovely luncheon was served the group by the ladies after the show. GROUP ATTENDS ADULT LEADERSHIP SCHOOL Miss Mable Merrell, home demonstration agent, took the following ladies to Logan Oct. 8, 9 and 10. Francis Allred, Altamont, Susan Taylor, Mt. Emmons, May Birch, Mtn. Home, Janet Cowan and Fredona Spencer, Duchesne. They attended the Adult Leadership School which took in three fields home improvement, clothing and foods. Four and one half hours were spent in each field. One evening was given on demonstrations of desserts, and they also saw exhibits of every kind. ENJOYS BONFIRE PARTY members and friends Twenty-tw- o of the DUP enjoyed a bonfire party last Saturday night. Mrs. LaVar Pace and family of Salt Lake City visited Sunday and Monday of this week with Mrs. Irene Johnson of Tabiona and the Ray Hacketts of Hanna. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Fabrizio moved to Salt Lake City for the winter last Saturday. Delbert plans on continuing his schooling. Captain and Mrs. Jerry Gallagan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Reed H. White, all of Tooele, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wilcken Sunday of this week. Connie and Marilyn Lee attended the wedding reception for Barbara Riley Tweed and husband in Salt Lake City last weekend.. Bob Lee was an usher at the reception. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fabrizio and family visited in Salt Lake City and Kimballs Junction over the weekend. I.'rs. Meda Hansen of Salt Lake City is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Blanche Defa this week. The Monroe Michies attended a Sunday School convention in Salt Lake City Sunday. Speakers at sacrament meeting last Sunday evening were Larry LaVar Pace and Foster Defa, Rhoades. Wheeler of Duchesne received word early Wednesday of the sudden death of their son, Gervin D. WheeleT, 43, at his home in Kenniwick, Washington. He died early Wednesday morning following a stroke. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son who is named after his grandfather. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler left for Washington to attend the funeral services. They have lived only a short time in Duchesne where Mr. Wheeler is associated with an oil company which is in the process of drilling a series of oil wells in the Duchesne area.
