Show Friday, January UINTAH BASIN RECORD, DUCHESNE, UTAH 23, 1942 1A UINTAH BASIN RECORD B. J. Schonian, Publisher PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY A-- Schonl&n, Roy AT DUCHESNE, Editor UTAH Grace Dalgleish iy HUMPTY in Duchesne county is Douglas Lindsay, the new game warden, and his name is included among a list of four or five possibilities. He undoubtedly would, be at the top of the board in betting averages today, and is pretty apt to stay there through the convention when it is called. There are several steps to be taken though before the final race is staged. Notice is sent , according to the political setup by State Chairman Parnell Black to the various county chairmen, who in turn notify precinct chairmen to call precinct conventions or meetings, for the purpose of electing delegates to the county convention. At the county convention the county organization is perfected, platforms state delegates elected, etc. None of this has been done yet, nor has it been announced when it will be done, and there is still plenty of time, for the law merely states that it must be done by a certain date in June. We can expect the action to start any time though, and it is probable that when it does there will be a lot more interest than there often has been in the past. The election laws of our national, state and local governments are so written as to give the people as much control as possible over the selection of their officials and political leaders IF they take the opportunities the law provides. Common practice, however, has usually left most of the procedure in the hands of a few politically minded persons, and about all the interest the voter takes is on election day. Every interested citizen, and that should mean EVERY citizen, should attend the district meeting. Only those who are chosen delegates can continue on from there, but every citizen can and should have his part in the beginning. - CONTAMINATION WHAT MATTER HOW? The question of contamination of the citys water supply is unfortunately becoming an issue, not of public health, but of personalities, so, having already commented on the situation in last weeks Record, in the nature of a warning that the Water is exposed to contamination, we add the following: The present water supply, coming in an open ditch, through fields of stock, before it reaches the unfinished mains, is .exposed to contamination. It makes little difference to a typhoid patient whether the water he drank was contaminated by cows or horses, or ducks or muskrats, or w hether it was contaminated a little more or a little less than a river close by, from which he used to drink.
