Sealed bids will be received by the State Road Commission ot Utah, State Capitol, Salt Lake City, Utah, at 2 oclock p. m. Friday, September 25th, 1936, and at that time publicly opened for construction of an Oil Surface Road (Road Mix) in Duchesne County the same being Federal Aid James Preston Some of the national capitols financial experts are wondering how it is that the federal budget will run "only $2,096,996,300 out of balance this fiscal year instead of $3,596,996,300. Two factors raised the question after the budget bureau iasued its recent recapitulation. The first is relief expenditures, The $2,096,-966,30- 0 deficit includes only the $1,425,000,000 appropriation voted last session of Congress. Already, relief officials have served notice that the $1,425,000,000 will be almost gone when Congress recon. venes in January. It will, there, fore, be necessary to get more money to continue relief as at Relief officials present. hope $500,000,000 extra will be enough. If they ask, and get, $500,000,-00the deficit for this year will be $2,596,996,300. Second is the proposed reduction in the Treasurys "working balance." In the last couple of years, the Treasury has accumulated about $2,000,000,000 in its cash fund, just like an individual would build up that much in his checking account. But now the plan is to reduce that $2,000,000,000 by half. That does not mean that the $1,000,-000,00- 0 will be saved, but simply th.(t it will be taken out of the "working balance" and used to pay runing expenses. Therefore, by June 30, say the analytical, the government will have spent $3,596,996,300 more than it took In during the fiscal year. 0, Much is appearing In print these days about how various federal agencies are reducing their payrolls . For instance, how WPA let 200 people go; how Rex Tugwell's Resettlement Administration is cutting 20 per cent; about how the AAA expects to cut from 4,600 to 1,500 era. ployes; about how the National Bituminous Coal Commission, charged with administering the f h' ateO Ouffev Coal Act has let off a hundred or so. ut But in the background, the big gest single group of civil employ es ever put on the federal pay. roll is being quietly built up. At last accounts, the Social Security Board had 961 persons on its pay roll, and beginning about Novem ber 15 it expects to begin a more rapid expansion toward its top of 10,000 to 12,000. Even if WPA dropped 200, the AAA 3,100, the RA 300 and the Coal Commission 100, the net in crease by the first of the year would still be 6,300 to 8,300. The hurricane season finds the WPA trying to close a door be hind a departed horse. Everyone recalls the many lives lost at Matecumbe and Tavernier, Flori da, last September when WPA veterans were caught by a storm The WPA has just announced allotment of $30,000 for construe shelters tion elf hurricane-proc- f in the Frorida Keys. Already, the WPA is building two other storm proof buildings in that area a school house at Fort school Lauderdale and a at Belle Glade. m TALMAGE By Mrs. Chris Sorensen Dan Kofford, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Kofford fell from a horse one day last week and broke an arm.
