The boys who were leaving camp last Friday to enjoy their Christmas vacation, were, just before leaving, brought to alert attention by the imperative sound of the whistle in the hands of Lieutenant Stewart, Mess Officer. All eyes turned expectantly to a reprimand; only to revert again to their previous state of happiness upon being informed by that adgentleman there would be in feed festal dition to the regular on Christmas day an exact replica of that sumptuous fare on December 27th, the day following their homecoming to camp. In addition to this all were informed that an elaborate repast would be served on New Years Day. c C c The Christmas Spirit of 1985 Call on Rama going slowly. As ye bear a brother lowly he may hear, Call on Rama perhaps, your voice! With our hymn books and our psalters We appeal to other alters, And today we bid Good Christian Men Rejoice! High noon behind the tamarishs the sun is hot above us the Christmas day is home As at breaking wan. at They will drink our health us tell who those dinner how they love us. And forget us till another year is gone! Christmas in India. Christmas! The famed celebration of that great Natal day when one star winked a knowing wink as if in full prophetic knowledge of the great and good doings of the twentieth centurions of this planet I am greatly moved by the magnificient spirit of giving and sacrifice that marks our wonderful age of Christianity. In sdber moment I reflect, and into my perfectly rested and clarified mind enters the picture of those many million of Christian children who, throughout the world, stand transfixed on Christmas Eve, before some ornately decorated candy-sho- p window, fully realizing that though they themselves may not partake, their little Bisters and brothers across the avenue will fully enjoy these commercialisms of Kris Kringle. There Js something so definitely unselfish about this. One often hears over the radio the warning that Santa will not visit the chimney of had little boys and girls. From this warning one may readily heed that frightful thing known as environment. So, on Christmas morning, when one of these millions of heirs and heiresses to the lesser privileges of the earthy discover that Father Christmas has passed them by on the morn of Gold, and Myrrh, they can walk across the avenue and fully realize how well behaved their limousine cousins have been. It ts strange indeed how terribly bad these children of the poor can be. Another touch of appreciation may be offered to the voluntary sacrie fice afforded by the clerks on Christmas Eve. True their ankles are swollen, their eyes are sunken, they will be too tired next day to care whether dinner is served or not; but these things must not concern us. We must think only that they are doing this for us, and for the glorious privilege of making their employers children happy. And before we close we must pay tribute to dear, dear Mother. She will be up early, she will work all day; and at the conclusion of the dinner, we shall thoughtfully skip to a dance, so that she may sleep quietly and thereby regain her strength, for the next Christmas bout. This all around spirit of consideration for others la so definitely prophetic of what the winking star had in mind. We most assuredly we an advanced and considerate generation. Charles L. Oliver.
