Show I I WI 1 ROGER BEVERLY HILLS Well all I know la is Just what I read In the papers papers pa pa- pers and what little I get from Just the names and taking glances In books t You v kno-v kno I am amt t tho h o fellow People PeopleS S send me more mono books Now I Iam Iam am fifty two years old sound f of body but weak of mind but I never did read hardly any books Oh ever once In awhile I will hear em all blabbing about ono one so much till I Itry Itry try to take some somo time off and read one Now that Good Earth I read that and quite a little on the tha boat n going over overto to Japan Floyd GIbbons had a couple of trunks with nothing In but books Well he woud tell me some that I should read and he would give em to me and J I would read em a little I liko like to read but butI I dont don't have havo any time I If I 1 got any spare time 1 I like to get on a horse and ride around or sit and blather with somebody I am an awfully windy old tai tal e and my wife wire says I bore more people than I entertain She says can do more talking away from home and less Jess at nt homo home than anybody for tor then thon I bog down and get my nose in a pa pa- per I do lots of ot paper reading if I 1 had put all my paper reading Into books I might have been pretty well read but this book thing I am so far tar behind there is no use trying to catch up now nov My oldest boy Bill Is the book hound of at the family He Is always reading something and he can remember it too Even If it I read reada a book I forget torget eV even evon n the name of It But this Is s not what I would end to anybody else for there Is some mighty fine stuff in books and some of the ones coming out now now I bet there Is some good ones Hard Hardtimes Hardtimes times poverty then Is when the fellows can ean write their soul Even if some of us could write we do It our stomachs re too full fun while we are arc not doing any too go good 0 1 at atthe atthe atthe the same time we wo are eating too much and taking things too easy We are too satisfied I get some aw- aw nice personally autographed books Lots of or em om from writers I 1 dont know Just like 1 co could ld mention some movie star or or cowman that they know But lots Jots o or of these are well welt known and have written lots of or things It gives nam names s of em on the y y leaves and then lots of at e a are my friends that autograph em to me Well what 1 I mean is is that 1 dont sit down and write em om and thank em like I ought too I appreciate the books and prize my c very highly but I know that some Bom times they must think 1 am a fine mess that they dout dont hear from me about It ft Well thoy ought to Just know what a poor hand band I am at writ writ- writing ing About twice a year I t will have batches of letters pile up that I keep saying I will answer and maby I do doand doand doand and I send em off ort and get lots of ot emback om em back bad saying the people are aie People write too much anyhow write too i J any otters letters too many books too much mu h in papers Papers would be bo twice twice as go good goad d If It they was vas half halt as big Books twice as good if they was fifty percent less and the ones Dues left lert half halt as thick And letters percent of them are written for no reason whatever It Just looks like anybody that can cau dig up a stamp Just feels like it will if It they hoy keep It ft They must get It of off on an a letter But I started out telling about books Why Just tonight out hero at atha the ha ranch six or eight boo boos s are hero here on my desk not In my Den but ut in my nu Dump My old friend McAdoo W.
