C Funk Trench Silos in Duchesne County George Roper of Upalco realized realized realized real real- last f fall that he would be short of feed this winter even though he carefully preserved all he had grown on his farm Consequently he built accordingly accordingly accordingly accord accord- and shoed his corn When Then in Duchesne one day he told me that his silage was good and that he was well pleased with the trench silo method of preserving corn In company with R. R S. S Lusty I visited Mr Ropers Roper's silo December December December Decem Decem- ber 12 We were told that when filling the silo they plowed a ditch and ran a stream of water into it larger than would be necessary to water the garden That in addition water was hauled into the center of the barn in barrels Mr Roper had previously told me that he put the corn in length lengthways lengthways lengthways ways and that he drove over each load with the new load as it was being unloaded and used a horse to tramp the silage Lyman Burdick a neighbor has hasa a silo which we visited Mr Burdick's Burdick's Bur- Bur dicks dick's silo sUo is on his ranch and he hauls the silage to his home in Bluebell The silage is of good quality The silage in the silo of H. H L.
