Emmons a fine mill building greets the eye. It is the Boneta mill. It is a modern up to date mill owned by citizens of Boneta and is one of their alued community as- sets. Climbing the iteep high dugway leading from the mill you suddenly emerge upon a beautiful table land whose surface, slope, soil climate and location admirably adapt it to agriculture. It is the Boneta dis- trict. It has under high cultivation some 2,000 acres of this land. Its altitude is around 7,000 feet, and like seveial of its neighbors, its air drainage is such as to modify its climate and conditions so ah to increase the range oftits products as well as add materially to the quality of its fruits and vegetables. Apples, pears, plumbs and cherries grow here in prolific profusion. Berries and small fruits of all kinds find it a natural home. Vegetables grow to such proportions and of such quality as to suggest the future possibilities of canneries and drying establishments. Irrigation water is obtained from the Lakefork river and has been developed entirely by the citizens working With the development of the Moon Lake reservoir the supply of water will be sufficient for more than double the present acreage under cultivation and the present acreage is too much for the present number of people. Taking care of its present acreage overworks the community. It was the tempting arrangement of Nature in forming this large tract of land so well suited to extensive and intensive agriculture that induced the first settlers to locate here. The necessity of a community center where supplies might be obtained, a post office establishment, school and church buildings erected that determined the building site of Boneta, it being the most central site for the community. It is claimed that this community has the largest percent of its original settlers than any other in the Basin and that this fact is proof of the value of the lands and the certainty of prosperity following inIt demonstrates telligent effort. the good judgment in selecting their homsteads and their faith in that judgment. ODonnell, a native of Longmont, Colorado, born on a farm in that section of Northern Colorado famed for its agricultural pursuits, received his scholastic and legal education in Denver. When the troubles between the United States and Spain in 1898 reached the point where sword and gun had to- be resorted to as arbiter of the dispute, heeded the call of Mr. ODonnell President McKinley and enlisted in the Second United States Volunteer Cavalry. This principle is just as applicable to the Uintah Basin as to any other set tion. Poultry products of the Basis could be made a valuable source of income if a standard variety of chickens wag selected and used by all farmers in the Basin. In the great poultry sections one may drive lor many miles .and see but one variety of chicken on all the farms. Potatoes, wheat, cattle, hogs, dairy products are all amenable to this s same law.. If UINTAH BRAND were made as prominent as DelMonte it would swell Uintah Basin bank deposits a hundred fold. When, the Steel Corporation was organized, 25 years ago, it required 14 hours of labor to produce a ton of pig Iron; now a ton is produced in two hours. An automobile factory 12 years' ago used 1,260 hours of labor to produce a car; now a car is built in 230 hours. If farm production could be systematized in this manner, the farm problems would be solved. ity. Poultry growing Is also developing, especially turkey production as these fowls command a good price and may be grown here with small expense and small probability of disease or other misfortune. Hogs are profitable and the usual hog diseases such as cholera are unknown. There are several large herds of range cattle here in which the blooded Hereford predominates. The community spirit is progressive and active and responds readily to all forms of community better- ment. Land values, or rather prices are 'low and this community offers splendid inducements to all homeseekers.
