Show v0 THE UINTAH BASIN FARMEI Ideal Site Is Chosen I For Basin Experiment (Farm at Ft. Duchesne , No more ideal place could have been selected for the Uintah Basin experimental farm than, the one chosen by Director William Peterson early this month after thoroughly in- vestigating 12 different farms for the purpose. The forty acre tract is on the Victory higthway east of the Uintah river, !near the new steel bridge, about one mile from fort Duchesne on land leased from F. 0. iLundberg for as many years as may be needed by the experimental department. The bill introduced by State Senator Thos. W. ODonnell called for $15,000 for the Uintah experimental farm, but owing to the policy of cutting expenses as much as possible by the state it was soon, seen that such bill would be defeated if it came up. so Mr. O'Donnell withdrew the original bill. At an opportune time, however, an appropriation of $8,000 for the experimental station was attached as a rider to the appropriation bill and that amount secured. It is also understood the sum will be matched by the government which will be an added help. The appropriation will, be used entirely for experimental work, and the cost of maintaining the farm must be met by local appropriation. At a meeting held at Fort Duchesne June 5, at whioh about 35 representative citizens from nearly every section were present. The plans of the work of the farm were explained and his reason for choosing the particular location, which was the very most accessible to all in the Uintah Basin and where the experiments will be the most easily seen by all, also the soil consideration with, an ample water right. The unanimous approval of all present, showed all were highly pleased with Mr. Petrseons judgment. Director Peterson was accomin Pitman panied by Prcfessoir charge of the experimental work and Dr. David Jennings, professor of soils, all of the extension service of the U. A. C., and John W. Carlson, deputy crop inspector in charge of the work last summer in Duchesne county, who has been appointed in charge of the new experiment station, accompanied them on their trip of inspection over the ent and conferred with the sentatives upon location and reprethe work of the station in general. In the evening meeting Messrs. Johnson, Lundberg, Gross, Wilkinson, B. O. Colton and J. P. May gave some excellent talks. Mr. Peterson then explained in a detailed outline of the contemplated work cf the experimental farm and that considerable would be done yet this yearplanting to be enabled to start the real experi- CARMEL FILLING FOR LAYER CAKE CREAM OF PEA SOUP One pint canned peas, one quart one tablespoon butter, two evmilk, Boil two cups medium brown C en ments on an extensive scale next flour, salt and pepper tablespoon with one of sugar cream cup until to taste. year and as much this year as posPress the peas through it a forms soft ball in cold water. sible That the farm would be di- Then Put the milk on to boil remove from the stove and add a colander. vided into equal plats one-haacre one in a farina boiler; as soon as it boils, vanilla teaspoon beat and until add to it and less.
