Alfalfa Leads Utahs Farm Crop in 1927 sections there are three cuttings a season. Wnere alfalfa is raised 'for value is adseed, an additional Importance of alfalfa , in Utah agriculture is shown by valuation figures on that crop for 1927, which amounted to 512,420,000. The next most valuable crop was wheat, which brought to farmers last year, 55,792,000. In addition to the value brought by alfalfa cut. for hay, 52,279,000 was realized on sales of alfalfa adseed, while other forms of hay ded substantial amounts to the feed money of the state. The value of other tame hay, raised mostly east of the Wasatch mountains, was 51,141.000. Wild meadow hay, which is not often looked upon by the casual observer as a crop of much value, was worth 5750,000 last year. Most of the hay raised in Utah is fed within the state and is shipped out in the form of dairy products, beef, mutton and wool. The alfalfa seed, however, is practically all as shlppnd out, and is recognized farm one of the most valuable crops. Alfalfa is looked upon as a double value crop. The yield per acre is high and is practically all john b. myleb Utah Myton, the right ribs or hips ded. Narrow Type of Shed Is Useful for Implements At this time of year every farm machine or piece of equipment not needed should be under shelter with a card showing what adjustments and repairs are needed. Even a straw shed Is better than none, but often a shed does not give full protection. Consider annual cost over a period of yfears rather than first cost, and use the materials at band which will give the longest life and least upkeep at the lowest first cost. Reinforced concrete, concrete blocks, hollow clay tile, galvanized Iron, lumber, and so on. should all be considered. The long narrow type of shed Is most usable and convenient about moving machines In and out Square sheds waste space, especially if a driveway must be kept open. Round sheds are even less desirable. Lons narrow sheds can be started small and added to as needed. well-roof- n 1WM ed Vernal, Utah Under half crop On right ribs. in each ear. Roosevelt, Utah. L. D.
