It is expected that several thousand chicks will soon be caponized and started on their way for a profitable income to the farmers this year. These young men have not been satisfied to stay in the school room and get their information from books, but they visited nearly every prosperous farm in the Ashley valley and made two quite extensive excursions to distant farms. Recently they visited the George Slaugh farm down at Green river. Mr. is to conceded be the best Slaugh gardener in the Uintah Basin, so a great deal of valuable practical information was gained through this visit. On May 15th a visit was made to the alfalfa seed experiment station at Fort Duchesne. The boys were shown over the farm by Superintendent Carlson and they showed keen interest in every experiment which is now under way or being planned. After going over all of the plats on the experiment farm, they were shown some of the work which is being done by Charles J. Sorensen who is in charge of the chalcis fly investigation in the Uintah Basin. From the experiment station, they went to the Indian farm at Whiterocks where they were given a thorough discussion of what is being attempted for the benefit of the Indians. Mr. Betts was in charge ot the excursion at this plant and very effectively explained every detail of farming operations at the Indian school. The Junior Farm Bureau has taken part in nearly all of the activities at the high school this year. They have often had farmers come before their classes and give them their experince. They figured prominently in the club leadership school which was held at Vernal in March. Many of these young men are old club members so they understand what it means to cooperate. Every farmer in Uintah county is proud of the Junior Farm Bureau and they are looking to this organization to carry on and achieve great results.
