Show TRUT H 9 m Gentiles Have the Schools. The statement published in Truth on Wednesday regarding the number of Gentile and Mormon teachers employed in the public schools proved a great surprise to both Gentiles and Mormons. The paper was in such demand that the issue was soon exhausted and as it is of the greatest that the public should know the real facts and not be led away by the false and malicious statements of a few soreheads and irresponsible fanatics, Truth, at the urgent d people, request of many reproduces the article in this issue. Since compiling the statistics, Truth has discovered several errors in classifying the teachers as Mormons and Gentiles, which are corrected in todays issue. The effect of these errors and in classing some as doubtful who should have been in the Gentile column is to increase the percentage of Gentiles employed. The corrected miportance fair-minde- ent of buildings, is a Mormon. We didnt ascertain the religious proclivities of the janitors and those who sweep out the buildings. Perhaps E. B. Critchlow, J. B. Moreton, Col. Nelson, EL W. Wilson, A1 Reese, Walter Meeks and other eminent authorities on school matters will not be very angry if a few Mormon old women hold jobs as sweepers. We want readers of Truth to preserve this article for reference at the school election next December, for which event Mr. Critchlow, Mr. Moreton, the gallant colonel, Mr.. Dininny, Mr. P. J. Daly and a few other malcontents are preparing to raise Ned about Mormon domination in the city schools. The list of teachers in the various schools follows. The letters G., M. and D. after the names signify Gentile, Mormon and doubtful, respectively: Superintendent, D. H. Christensen, M. Secretary, superintendents office, Myrtle A. Reilly, G. Truth gives these figures to show Examining Board Rosalie Pollock, G. that the Gentile teachers, principals, H. B. Folsom, M. A. S. Martin, G. and M. Dukes, G. others the in Ella supervisors engaged asin are schools the public largely Supervisors Primary grades, cendent. Mr. Pinney, the superintend Pollock, G. Music, W. A. Wet-Ro-sal- ie returns gives the Gentiles over 75 per cent of the teachers, supervisors and principals instead of over 70 per cent Gentile, as originall stated. The article reproduced reads as follows: A few days ago Truth published an article showing the fallacy of the cry that has been raised by that aggregation of soreheads, calling itself the American party', that the Mormons had control of the public schools, that Gentile teachers had been driven out and their places filled by Mormons, that the standard of education was being lowered and that the school system was going to wreck and ruin. Since then Truth has obtained additional details regarding the religious status of the teachers as between Gentiles and Mormons, which fully bears out Truths original statements. That there can be no question as to the correctness of the assertions of this paper that 75 per cent or over of the teachers are Gentiles, below is given the name of every teacher and prin- cipal in the schools on September 26 last, marked Mormon or Gentile, or doubtful, as the case may be. The doubtfuls foot up to 34. Some of those belong to Mormon families, but do not profess the Mormon faith. There are others of the 34 whose religious preferences we could not as34, however, is not a certain; large number of doubtfuls out of a total teaching force, including principals and supervisors, of 364. Of the total number 225 are Gentiles, 105 Mormons, and 34 doubtfuls. It is a notable fact, too, that those employed as principals and those teachers in the high school where the salaries are highest are nearly all Gentiles. The superintendent is a Mormon, his secretary is a Gentile. The clerk of the board and his assistant are Gentiles. The examining board is composed of three Gentiles and one Mor- mon, with the superintendent a Mormon, ex officio chairman of the board. The supervisors are three Gentiles and one Mormon. The West Side high school has only two Mormons Of the Gentiles. and twenty-fiv- e Gentiles The East and nine Mormons. Side high school has ten teachers, including the principal, all Gentiles.
