Show T RUTH UTAHS ELECTORAL VOTE NEEDED. The following table contains the electoral vote for 1904, together with the plurality given each, presidential candidate in 1900, with a forecast of the result in 1904. The table was compiled by Judge James A. Miner: y ?- Necessary to a choice, 239 votes. H'l - 5 This shows a major- ity for Roosevelt of 174 votes in the Electoral College. Thus it will be seen that Roosevelt can lose the following states, claimed by the Democrats, viz: Votes New York Connecticut Colorado 39 Indiana New Jersey West Virginia 15 7 5 12 ...... , 7 Total 85 And still carry 240 votes, or one vote more than is necessary to elect the Republican ticket. The Democratic national committee claims the last named states, with 85 electoral votes, which, if added to their conceded vote, makes 236 votes, three votes short of a majority. the contentions of the Democratic party are correct, and the three votes of Utah be cast for the Democratic If ticket, then Parker and Davis will receive 239 votes, which elects the Democratic ticket If Utah goes Democratic and its electoral vote be cast for Parker, the American party will be responsible for Democratic success. It does not seem possible that any Republican with reasonable foresight can ally himself or herself with a political organization that may bring upon the country such a far reaching calamity, and upon himself and his family such financial ruin as befell the people of this country on the accession of Cleveland to the Presidency. Republicans should think twice before consigning their whole future happiness and financial success to such an arch enemy to national prosperity. To vote the American ticket at this time is madness. It is more it is political suicide; it is degeneracy. It is simply falling into a trap set by the managers of the Democratic party at this time to defeat the Republican ticket, and with it the hope for the destruction of the Republican party of Utah for ten years to come. No oio can truthfully deny the fact that the American movement was first planned, fostered and advised by the managing boss of the Democratic party in connection with the senior senator. Outwardly this Democratic boss is demanding that all Democrats support the Democratic ticket; covertly he is aiding the American movement, and probably furnishing it financial support from the Democratic national committee.
