Macknlght, who Is a candidate for city treasurer at the hands of the Republican convention next Thursday, is a Utah product and was born in Salt Lake City July 20, 1872. He has always been a Republican snce he cast his first vote in 1893. He has been an active worker in the cause from the start, for he began-hi-s political career by being elected a delegate to the convention at that time. He has been earnest in his work, too, and has labored side by side with such young workers as Alma nomination. Khtz, Bert Varian, Joe Eldredge, George Wilson, P. P. Christensen and other active young men in the ranks of the party.. He was one of the organizers of the Young Mens Republican club and for six years was its presiding officer. Mr. Macknlght was not discouraged by the adverse circumstances which befel the party in 1896, either. He kept right along in the even tenor of his way and worked all over the country. Through his efforts new.Jife was infused into the members. of the party and his work has been acknowledged by all. For two years he was deputy county clerk, a place he filled to the satisfaction of hU schlef and of the public.
