Show TRUTH. 12 what the Mormons are charged with wanting to do, and are trying to do? For the life of me I cannot draw the line between them. What he could hand of the Son mean by the giuiniTthe smp of "state, other than his church is to take a hand in the political affairs of the na- a tIon comprehend. What he says certainly applies to temporal guidance. There is no such thing as a spiritual ship of state. He means this and nothing less, that when the time comes ; when this church of the fu- ture has installed itself in power, that the governIng force Is t0 be transform- ed from earth to heaven, and the tem-an- d poral power to rule be transferred from Its present position to the mouthpieces of God Almighty and the vicegerents of Jegug Chrlgt 0r ,n other wordg ke world is to take a backward turn of a thousand years. And we are to find ourselves again engulfed in the THE KETTLE AND THE POT. There will be a church In the future. Christ Is calling, men are heed- tag the call, men are answering the call. The church of the future will be the called out ones of Jesus Christ, What the form of the organization will be no man can tell. The church of the future will do what it can to make the kingdoms of this world the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ and the pierced hand of the Son of God shall suide the ship of state on every water, you need not wait for the second coming for that for He has come to 1. r. r. GUiord d.d. Just who P. P. Gifford, D.D. is, the writer does not know, but that he is an authority on church matters and particularly for the Methodist Etfsco-- 1 pal portion of It, is evidenced by the fact that the above quotation was last week approvingly published by the Christian Advocate, of this city. Whatever may be the Reverend D.D.s peculiar brand of orthodoxy, certain it is that he is not a Mormon. And yet he talks IJust like Mormons are ac. cused of talking. Reed Smoot never said more, and I doubt that ever an apostle said more, or even the presi- dent of the Mormon church ever said more, or meant more fully what he said than did and does this same Rev-ered D.D. So far we have not heard any complaint made by the Methodist you. church against Reverend Giffords as- sertion; neither has the editor of the Utah Advocate, so far as we have heard, been called upon to explain why he so approvingly quoted him, notwith- standing the fact that at this very time the file leaders of the Methodist church are turning heaven and earth to unseat Senator-eleSmoot, not for saying such things as the above, but rather because he Is accused of enter-taining the exact ideas enunciated by the Reverend Gifford. Read carefully what he says and then tell me what he means. Does he mean what he says? When he assures us that when the coming church comes, When the kingdoms of this world are made the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ. When the pierced hand of the Son of God shall guide the ship 0f state?" what does he mean? What COUM hu that would be objec- mn, to tionable the most zealous Latter-day Saint on earth? Isn't that exactly taught oZelve 0 I through ages of torture, flame and blood. A church is a church. Editor Truth: Noticing the criti- cisms in the Truth and other papers, I was Impressed with the fact that a wrong had been done Judge Kroeger. If the writers of the articles referred to had taken a little time to acquaint themselves with the dockets of his court, being fair men as I know them to be they would not have written as thy did. I occupied desk room for two years with Judge Kroeger and during this time heard a large number of cases tried before him, and I must say that I was at all times im. pressed with the absolute fairness of his conduct, decisions and rulings, as a justice, as well as his ability in the management of his cases. I dont think that any of the numerous lawyers who practiced before him could or would say that he was purposely unfair, or would deviate from what he believed to be the rules of justice to favor one side or the other. I frequently heard him spoken of by lawyers as the ablest justice of the peace in the city, and from my observation while in his office, I am sure he was justly entitled to the commendation. JOHN T.
