Show TRUTH 1 games. Lagoon as a resort is a delightful place, well conducted and beautiful, but it is a long ride for a ball game. It is all right to go to Lagoou for au outing, but the fans dont want to combine a ball game and an outing. A game at Lagoon means four hours time at the least calculation, oyer thirty miles travel on the railroad, late dinner and more expense. That is why people are complaining of the arrangement which places all Sunday games at Lagoon. Sporting Gossip. disastrous one The past week was a club. Salt Lake is the main to this league it furnishes the money on its feet and it is enkeep the league titled to a team that can play ball. For several seasons past tbe town has not had a team that could come close to beatin Ogden and it begins to look as if the same old Btory would be repeated this year. People are beginning to tire reof it and if the management finds ceipts are falling off the condition may be attributed to a peanut policy that does not give the town players who can . ft ft One circumstance that helps to explain why the games are moved to Lagoon is the relationship which exists between one baseball magnate and the proprietors of the resort. This may go far toward accounting for the situation. well-kno- the team and tell where the trouble lies. Space is too valuable and anyway that is the business of the management. can contradict the statement that there is a lamentably weak team here and the management would do well to get a move on if it expects people to patronize the games in which the Salt Lake club figures. ft ft The management of the club came out in one of the daily papers last week with a long holler, setting out that Joseph and Borchers were noble patriots whose love for the game had caused them to throw themselves into the breach when all others stood aloff just so that Salt Lake might have baseball. Well; this may be all right, but the records of both gentlemen do not tend to confirm the idea. The public dont care what the motives, thoughts, impulses, or patriotism of the promters may be. What the public wants is good ball and if that is not forthcoming the public wont pay to see the No one games. ft ft While upon this subject it is proper to state that a great many fans object to going to Lagoon for Sunday ball PIPER'S pirns. Oh, for the days of the Roman empire just long enough to permit this pair of tyros to fight a couple of tigers, s With rather discouraging weather conditions against them the bicycle races at the Salt Palace this year draw very well and the races as a whole are excellent. The always-populmotor events have been inaugurated and some hot races during the season are promised. It is understood that a couple of fine single motors, such as Maxwell brought from Denver last year, are due to arrive shortly and they ought to prove great drawing cards. The sprint races have all been very fair, and while no records have been broken as yet the finishes have been good and exciting, which is the main thing from the spectators point of view anyway and it is the spectator whose wishes should be consulted. t 5 s s SALT PALACE Theatre.... The National Homeseekers Association has matured this week three contracts of $1,000 each for W. B. Boyd of 542 West Second South street. Mr. Boyd has three more contracts running and intends building a terrace. Work will be begun on the three matured contracts at once. All people who want to own their homes can do so by taking out contracts with the National Home-seeke- rs Association.
