Show Io TRUTHS. It may bo expected that tho Tribune Trib-une will continue publishing Its sland-tiers sland-tiers for quite a while. About n year ago or a year and a half ngo the Tribune, Trib-une, by tho efforts of Furious J. Cannon, Can-non, buncoed tho Woman's clubs and other gulllblo organizations into subscribing sub-scribing for 2,000 copies of tho dally Tribuno for a period of three years. Those copies woro subscribed for and paid for on tho understanding that the Tribune would roast Utah in general and glvo tho Mormons hades In particular. par-ticular. Tho Tribuno is carrying ou' that contract and to contlnuo it until Its expiration will havo to pursue its policy of slandering and Injuring tho stato. Will tho business men and merchants mer-chants stand for that kind of thing? This Is no llctlon cither. It's hard fact. Two young men of Utah have distinguished dis-tinguished themselves at tho Washington Washing-ton University In Washington, D. C. Carl A. Badger has just received his degreo from tho law department with highest honors and Hcbcr G. Lund has won it similar distinction from tho medical department. I Superintendent Chrlstonscn of the Salt Lako public schools has been reappointed re-appointed to his position for two years at an advances In salary. In this tho board of education mado no mistake. Mr. Chrlstonscn has demonstrated by his work and tho fruits thereof that ho Is tho right man In tho right place. Ho has oxecutlvo ability, Is a man of erudition and above all a man In whom there Is no gullo. C. Stanley Price Is spoken of quite frequently as a desirable candidate for tho ofllco of county nttornoy and he may bo Induced to enter tho lists before be-fore tho Republican convention. Price Is ono of tho best read and brlghest young lawyers at this bar. Hiram E. Booth has been named by President Roosevelt for tho ofllco of United States District Attorney for Utah to succeed Joseph LIppman whoso term expired on Juno C, and who failed to bo reappointed. There was qulto a fight mado on Mr. Booth by tho so-called "American" crowd led . by tho Tribuno and ex-Senator Kearny but Mr. Booth "won out" being backed by Senators Smoot and Sutherland. Booth Is an able lawyer, stands well with the bar and tho public and will without doubt bo a most efficient officer. of-ficer. His appointment is another direct di-rect slap In tho face to that fool aggregation ag-gregation which has seen lit to call Itself tho "American" party, and in their vain imaginings thought they had credit and standing with tho national na-tional Republican party. That party, which Is bossed by ex-Senator Koarns, has not only not succeeded in securing secur-ing tho appointment of any ono of Its nets to a federal ofllco, but has failed to prevent tho appointment of any one who received the endorsement of tho congressional delegation from tho stato. Tho Tribuno may fret and fume and try to belittle Senators Smoot an1 Sutherland and Congressman Howell, but it is a fact so patent that it cannot can-not bo denied that those gentlemen havo carried every point for which thoy contended. i HIRAM E. BOOTH, THE NEW U. S. ATTORNEY FOR UTAH Parley White Is considered a desirable desir-able candidate by tho Republicans for county treaurer next autumn. Parley hasn't mado any announcement yet, but ho may decido to bo a candidate. Sheriff Emory says he will not bo a candldato for re-election. Joseph C. Sharp, ono of Mr. Emery's most efficient ef-ficient deputies, It Is thought may como boforo tho Republican convention conven-tion for tho nomination. Tho "Amoricans," Yankee Doodles, Fred Price christened them, havo some candidates for county offices. Ex-United Ex-United States Marshal Heywood wants the honor of being beaten for sheriff on that ticket, but ho has opponents In his own party. Georgo Hancock announced an-nounced nearly six months ago that he would bo tho next sheriff of Salt Lako county and what Georgo says goes. Joe Raleigh also wants the place. It Is safe to say that if Joo beats Ben In tho convention there will be open t war and if Ben beats Joo a similar stato of facts may bo reckoned upon. Volumo 1, No. 1 of the Magrath Pioneer has reached us. Judging from tho expressions of tho paper Magrath is not only tho garden city of Canada Cana-da but of the world. However, that may bo the Pioneer is a most credit-nble credit-nble production, an eight page weekly showing literary ability and a large modcum of common sense. To David H. Elton, editor and proprietor, belongs be-longs tho credit. The Odd Fellows of Salt Lako City will hold memorial services at Odd Fellows' Hall, Market street, on Sun day, Juno 17, at 2 p. m. An appropriate programme has been arranged, after which the graves of departed brothers will be decorated. The public is Invited. In-vited. The committee requests that lowers be brought to the hall not later '.han 9 a. m. Sunday Juno 17. In tho editorial convention to be held In Indianapolis next week, Utah ought to bo represented by editors. It may not bo, however. Tho Madrid bomb-thrower got out of this life on his own terms after all. Tho only satisfaction Is that ho did get out. ? & Senator Burton that wan, resigned when there was nothing elso In the wrold for him to do this side of making mak-ing his disgrace more monumental than It already was. ! & Tho United States senate is manifestly mani-festly In no hurry to dispose of the Smoot case. If that body Is waiting for such moral support as might yet bo required.lt might get It by applying to tho Tribune and Telegram of this city, whose well-known regard for the public welfare would undoubtedly cause them to furnish such bolstering without charge. ftC vjC Peter Martin has been appointed postmaster at Park City on the recommendation recom-mendation of Congressman Howell. A. G. Glauquo has on more than ono occasion demonstrated that he Is a ., most useful member of the city board i of education. Mr. Giauquo is a builder build-er and contractor, and by his special knowledge In that lino has been tho means of saving tho taxpayers many thousands of dollars. Notably that was the caso In tho building contracts recently let by tho board. & ! The board of education has recognized recog-nized the ability and faithful services of Clerk Judd by advancing his salary, sal-ary, a move which meets with general gen-eral approval. |
