Bicycle races, dancing, vaudeville, illusions, band con certs, combined with cool breezes and bright foliage, form a combination of endless chain amusement, always varied and attractive. Manager Myers is to be congratulated on the way things are running at his big metro politan resort. Jl Jl MUSIC. Bandmaster John Held will introduce to the public at the Salt Palace tomorrow night something quite new in the way of a sacred concert. The programme wfll be composed entirely of rag time numbers, and that i will be popular goes without saying, although not the kind of music usually arranged for a Sunday night programme. The innovation has been tried in the east and found Instant favor. The reason is quite plain. Sunday is the one day in all the week that is convenient for a large number of people who seek amusement. It is to this class the only day in the week that a little pleasure can be found. To them the popular air, the rag time, represents music at its liveliest ant as their desire is to be enlivened the band giving them music of their desire draws the crowd. Classical music is to lovers of that class of composition the only thing, but to the average per son attending an open air Sunday night concert, classical music is decidedly a bore. Held, as a purveyor of assorted music, is the right kind of a man to have in our midst, for he certainly knows how to suit the tastes of each class of amusement seekers His entire act numbers at the bicycle track have proved of decided interest at those events while in the pavilion he gives Sousa and Strauss a show in catering to the dancers. T. A. Exenriioi Agent. AT THE RE80RTS. Saltalr, as usual, provided a fine Pioneer day program and catered to thousands. Everybody had a good time and the water was alive with bathers who kept the "ferry boats loaded nearly all the time. Vaudeville will be seen at Saltalr for a few days, after which the operatic extravaganza Aladdin, is billed for a run, to be followed by similar productions. With its varied attractions and reduced fare, Saltalr is recognized as the resort for the multitude. At Calders Park, Barnard, the high diver, and Professor Abbott, the balloonist, have attracted big crowds throughout the week. One of the most ambitious programs yet given at any of the resorts was carried out at Cal ders yesterday, and reflected credit upon the enterprise of the manage ment. The Palace of Illusions is not only entertaining, but extending its popularity The universal verdict is that no better show has been given In Salt Lake for ten cents, which is certainly not saying too much for the enterprise of the managers, Messrs. Madsen and Maltese. For a city of its size, Salt Lake is better provided with summer amusement than any other city in the world. Jl Jl Held's Military band is proving immensely popular at the Salt Palace, and in the concert tomorrow evening will be assisted by members of the vaudeville company. As usual, the First Regiment band will present a superior program at Calders tomorrow afternoon and evening. Jl Jl Big crowds were in evidence at the Lagoon yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the many attractions to be found. The lakes were covered with a flotilla of boats, like the canals of Venice during a festival. The popularity and beauty of the Lagoon are growing every year. The free open air concerts are a great' boon to those who could not otherwise enjoy any music, and they are becoming more popular every week. Jl Jl ' A few clarinet players can secure plenty of wrork in this city. Jl Jl Probably no city anywhere can show such a diversified programem of free music as Salt Lake. The twice a week organ recitals in the tabernacle, instead of showing a decrease in attendance, are steadily showing an increase. They are held every Tuesday and Friday at 5:10 p. m., with Mr. McClell&n at the organ. He Is assisted each week by prominent local singers and the events are being looked forward to with Interest by the general public. The hundreds of strangers passing through are always to be found at these recitals, and they one and all seem to enjoy them. It is quite an advertisement for Utah, and is doing a good work in giving to the world a faint idea of our talent. Jl jl Mrs. Martha Royle King Is thinking of repeating The Dress Rehearsal, which calls for a cast entirely ofr girls. Many who were in the cast when she gave it some years ago for the Young Ladies Aid society in the old Lyceum, will remember with pleasure the success it made. The members of the first cast are probably scattered all over the country by now, and Truth would have quite a hard time in locating them.
