Theres a rather amusing story told of one of our promising young attorneys who is known mostly for his good looks. Some time ago he was calling at the Knuts-for- d on a dainty maiden of his ac- quaintance, when a man friend passing along with two charming girls strangers stopped and presented the Oh, is this young man to his party.one of the the gentleman? asked girls. A side explanation was made and the eastern man acknowledged that he had given the attorneys name as that of a well known man who has an abundance of wives. The local girl of the party saw the humor of the situation and carried on the joke admirably; and to save the day, the attorney acquiesed, but he did not feel in the best of humor and he has been heard to say that he means to get even with the' man some day. Meantime the fair visitors are spreading abroad the news that some of the polygamists of Utah are really nice men, and deploring the fact the man in question declared that he would be satisfied with number three the local maiden. - Jt From Life. Jl Jt Of all the brilliant entertainments given during the season, and for gorgeousness of arrangement the affairs of this season have been notable nothing has equalled the lawn fete of Tuesday night given by Miss Anna McCornick. The grounds surrounding the home are especially well adapted for a lawn party and, while lending themselves admirably to the decorative scheme, are even more no straps. And when I hear the bugle call And listen to the sound of taps, I always think of all the men Who wear the dandy shoulder straps. Samuel whose name is a synonym for success in mining, is mapping out plans for the town of Newhouse in Colorado, which is to be a model city. It will be at the Cactus mines, distant about six miles from Frisco, Utah. The Cactus mines, the latest of Mr. Newhouses mining enterprises, are destined to become one of the largest copper producers in the world, having already in sight in the neighborhood of 60,000,u00 in pay ore, although but little development has yet been done. A plant capable of treating 1,500 tons of ore daily will shortly be erected on these premises, and the adjacent territory will be given over to the construction of the model city, where homes will be built for the miners. The town will be laid out on the most healthful and artistic plans, flower gardens surrounding the homes of the miners and the sanitation will be perfect A spur of the Oregon Short Line road will be constructed to the door of the Cactus mines, thus not only facilitating the shipment of ore, but establishing an important town in what has hitherto been a comparatively undeveloped country. Even if the town has no other population than the miners employed in the Cactus mines and their families, it is assured that the population will number at the start three thousand.
