When the fatal disintegration began to take place, the Republican managers began to exert themselves to keep the lopu-lis- t party in existence. They sought oiit an old time Republican who hud been voting with the Populists, and implored him to .keep Hie party together, It was like a drowning man catching at a straw, but the old did his best. He refused to surrender to the Democrats and started a little paper that never got subscribers. There were those wlg were unkind enough to say that the money expended in running the paper was furnished by the Republican committee. It will thus be seen that the allied Democrats and Populists of Idaho are a potent power. It is fair to suppose that they will win in the coining Btate election, because Idaho Republicans are not more numerous than Utah Democrats. lie-public- an to-w- ii: Open-shaw- th (1-- 5) . ; : ' JSSAp&&)iI. one-quar- SUMMONS. Only those who have walked in the'shadow of vice can answer the question. Is a road house necessary to the well-bein- g of a community? Thieves, garroters, holdwould all deup men and clare that a road house must exist or they would have no place they could call home. The road house is established that vice and crime may liuve peaceful habitation beyond the prying eyes of the law. Its very inception and maintenance comes of lawlessness. The road house is always located el the pale of municipal authority, it i.i invariably just beyond the limits of a city, where the conduct of rural affairs makes no provison for close police supervision. Ail road houses are condctcd in the same manner, to foster crime and furnish a shelter for vice.
