To think that a state with the future this one has; that a state with the resources this one has; that a state with the people this one has, should even think of sending .either of the twain to the senate of the United States! J Although a few corrupt and men have at times succeeded' in breaking into that body, as a rule the senate has been made up of real men. The roster of that organization contains some of the noted men of history. Clay and Calhoun, Webster and Hayne, Blaine and Sumner, and the balance of the immortals who have taken part in the debates is a great one. Think of having added the name of Kearns to that bunch and then think of having the name of Bill Glasmann added to it. incom-petentpete- nt Both these men are serious in their efforts. The first named thinks he can secure enough members of the leg- islature to send him back, while the last believes he can secure votes enough from his own county to hold they key to the situation and force his. own election after a deadlock has occurred. The very idea of these men attempting to secure an office of this kind is an insult to the intelligence of the citizens of the state and it is no wonder there are members of the Republican party who tremble for its safety in view .of the calamities that threaten it. It is thought that there will be men great enough in the party to prevent such action being taken; that both Kearns and Glasmann will be told to get back into the obscurity they should inhabit and that if the Republican party is successful at the poLs this fall it will choose some man by birth, education, talent and refinement competent to represent an intelligent and honest citizenship of a state whose future is a rosy one.
