Show o U. S. SENATOR BUTTERFINGERS. Editor Truth: At this writing it appears that Judgo Buttorlingers thinks he is a candidate for tho United Unit-ed States senate to succeed Mr. Kcarns. His "many friends ln tho cast" havo asked him to permit the uso of his illustrious name for that exalted ofllce. Tlioso mentioned as having Insisted Insist-ed that ho become n candidate aro McKlnley, Quay and Hnnna. Ho Is careful to select his indorsors from among tho dead, from thoso who, If living, would not think it necessary to deny that they had over been guilty of such brainless simplicity. And yet his thick skulled pretender ln tho law has not sense enough to soo that 95 per cent of tho men and women wo-men wo meet every day simply laugh at the idea of his aspiring to a United States scnatorship. It Is dlllicult to imagine that any member of tho legislature would bo Idiotic enough to cast his vote oven ln a caucus or in a complimentary way for this railway pass llond, and mining stock jobber. It is amazing, howovor, when wo come to think of It, that tho people of this stato wero over guilty of tho absurdity of electing sucn a weakling to tho bench; but there Is compensation In tho fact that no one excopt himself has been heard to say that he is in tho least degree lit for tho position of senator. Tho Republicans of this stato havo retired Mr. Koarns for reasons which ln tho main apply with equal forco to Mr. Gumshoo Buttorlingers who was novor known to havo a brief, and is wholly incapable of trying a case if ho had one. Whatever olso this senatorial campaign cam-paign may amount to It will certainly bo tho beginning of a movement to retire re-tire Mr. Buttorlingers from tho bonch. REPUBLICAN. |
