Show I REPUBLICANS FAR IN THE LEAD The Republicans aro well In the lead In this compaign. Democratic success Is, as it has & been from the outset, an Impossibility. The Issue of this campaign Is to beat Tom Kearns' so-called "American" party. The only way to do that Is to vote the Republican ticket Mr. Lynch can bo elected by the reputable citizens of Salt Lake doing their duty. Mr. Morris does not stand a ghost of a show. The people artf coming to realize this as they analyze the situation. Hero are a few more facts in election matters that show the situation; there are 52 election districts in Salt Lake City, and how the vote In them was at the last election, elec-tion, since which time there has been nothing to change materially the rela-l rela-l tlvo positions of Republicans and I Democrats: On the Presidential vote, the Republicans Re-publicans carried every one of tho 52 city election districts. On tho regular party legislative tickets the Republicans carried 46 districts, dis-tricts, the Kearns "Americans" carried car-ried 4, and tho Democrats 2 districts out of the 52. Hero is tho detail by municipal wards of the number of election elec-tion districts carried by each party: : 3? 33 o CARRIED 3,54 3 3,2 3.3. g,ff 3 BY R"epin ... 10 13 I 9 6 9 40" Amcns ..1 2 0 1 0 4 Dems. . . 0 0 1 1 0 2 Tot. .. 11 15 10 7 9 52 The suggestion that a party which carried only two out of fifty-two election elec-tion districts In tho city can win tho election may mislead blind partisans of that party, but it is so manifestly absurd that no thinking person will bo deceived thereby. From every point of view the election facts show that there is no possibility of electing tho Democratic ticket. Mayor Morris is therefore out of tho race. The Kearns "Americans" carried four election districts to two for the Democrats. The Kearns "Americans" carried District 9 in tho First municipal ward, Districts 20 and 23 in the Second, District Dis-trict 43 in the Fourth, and none In tho ' Third or Fifth. i Tho Democrats carried District 31 In the Third Municipal Ward, District 37 in tho Fourth, and none in either tho First, Second or Fifth. The Republicans carried ten dls-' dls-' trlcts in tho First municipal ward, i thirteen in the Second, nlno in tho Third, five in the Fourth, and nine in tho Fifth. r Truth's politics is to beat tho cor-w cor-w rupt Kearns aggregation. That cannot can-not be done by voting for Morris; It can bo done by voting for Lynch. Therefore Truth maintains tho position posi-tion now clear to everyone who has thoroughly investigated tho facts, that tho only way to beat tho Kearns "Americans" is to vote tho Republican Republi-can ticket from top to bottom in this ! city. i In the First municipal ward, figures show that on tho regular party legls-' legls-' latlve ticket not the Roosevelt vote ) tho Republicans carried ten of tho eleven election districts, the Kearns "Americans" carried one, and tho Democrats never got a look In. What I ' w sensible person will say the Demo-' Demo-' cratlc ticket has a shadow of prospect there, against either of tho others? , In tho Second tho Republicans car- 1 ried eleven of tho thirteen districts, i ' the Kearns "Americans" two and tho t I Democrats none. What better off aro tho Democrats In the Second than In tho First? In tho Third, tho Republicans carried car-ried nine of tho ten districts, the Democrats Dem-ocrats one and tho Americans none. With only one out of ton districts, how can the Democrats got enough to sweep tho rest in any show of strength? In tho Fourth tho Republicans carried car-ried five out of seven districts, tho Kearns "Americans" one and the Democrats Dem-ocrats one. Who would call tho Democrats Dem-ocrats a "powerful" weapon against tho Kearns ticket on such a showing as that? In the Fifth tho Republicans carried all nlno districts, neither Kearns' "Americans" nor tho Democrats getting get-ting any. Who boasts of tho strength of Democrats there? Everything shows that tho Republican Republi-can ticket is tho one, and tho only one, with which to beat tho Kearns crowd. Try it again: Of tho city election districts tho Republicans Re-publicans carried 88 per cent on tho legislative ticket, tho Kearns "Americans" "Ameri-cans" 8 per cent, and the Democrats 4 per cent. How can the latter bo stronger than either of the former? Is 4 per cent greater than 88 per cent? To beat the Kearns "Americans" you must vote tho Republican ticket. A vote for Morris is practically a vote for Thompson. Democrats base their figuring on the result two years ago. That this is misrepresentation of tho situation Is easily recognized from a few well known lacts. At that time' leading Gentile Republicans like Judge Zane, O. J. Salisbury, Benner X. Smith, Rev. Slmpkin, Rev. Wake. M. H. Walker, and many others fought the Kearns gang which had gained control of tho Republican city convention. Not one of those men is working for Morris now, so from tho standpoint of Gentile Gen-tile Republicans who will not submit to the bosslsm of Tom Kearns, it is utterly imposslblo to produce again the result of two years ago. Every thinking person knows this. Again: Tho Kearns papers two years ago openly advocated that tho Gentiles cut every Mormon who was up for office, and vote only for Gentiles. Gen-tiles. Tho Mormon Republicans wero angered at this, and voted and worked for Morris. This is not being dono now, so tho figures of two yoars ago cannot bo half-produced from that standpoint. Tho Democratic figures on this point are worse than worthless. They are deceptive and known to bo so. Voters should not permit themselves to bo fooled. Morris hasn't a ghost of a show. A vote for Morris is practically n voto for Thompson. Beat the Kearns '"American" ticket. The only way to do this is to voto tho Republican ticket, and voto it straight. o |
