Show Cbc Political Arena Although tho weather for the past few days has been ossontlally warm, it has not beon hot enough to wilt the ambitions of Richard P. Morris, who desires to bo tho Democratic nominee for mayor. Although tho executive Is out of town, on a vacation, and another an-other man performs his duties, tho mayor has enough supporters to keep tho pot boiling and o'en now tho gentle gen-tle bubbling may be hoard, if one will but cock his ear and listen. Ben D. Luce, Land and Water Commissioner, Com-missioner, is presumably at the helm. Don announces that tho mayor is "tho man." Asked If he thought the Democrats Demo-crats could muster enough delegates to hold a convention this fall, Ben responded re-sponded "Sure." Then ho pointed to the work done by the dozen patriots a year ago in nominating Morris, of which ho is ono and Haslam tho other, who received recognition for tho service. ser-vice. Of tho other ten, ono, Morris Sommer, Is dead, while the balance are sulking In their tents. It Is hardly probable that they will got out and tear their underwear in an effort to renominate re-nominate Morris. But Ben thinks that "they will como a-runnln'." Because there Is a million dollars to spend on tho water system and times arc going to be good, when that money starts to circulate, and thero is going to be all sorts of doings. Well, It is not altogether Improbable Improb-able that Morris will get tho nomination nomina-tion all right. Thero aro not enough left In tho party to successfully oppose op-pose It and what thoro aro remaining aro not so darned tumultuous as to crack any window panes with their iheering. Morris can get tho nomination nomina-tion all right', but then there is an election to bo hold and that Is what counts. Luce, however, is as sanguine and full of hope as a dog is of fleas. Ho is prepared to just get out and moro than whoop things up for his candidate. Up to date he has expressed himself as having no second choice and It Is not believed he, or any other Democrat for that matter, nas a second sec-ond choice, because there doesn't seem to be any other Democrat willing to take a choice. A very nlco scheme Is bolng formulated formu-lated by Democratic supporters of i Richard P. Morris, having for an object ob-ject his re-election as mayor at tho coming city election. It is proposed to divide tho Republican voto by urging urg-ing tho nomination of a Gentilo Republican Re-publican as a candldato on tho "American" ticket; tho Idea being to divide the Republican voto and thus secure tho election of Morris. This little plan, it is said, was broached at a private caucus of the mayor's friends just before ho went, away, and of which he was cognizant. The mayor realizes that his chances this fall are mighty slim; that tho prospects aro that tho fight will bo between be-tween tho "American" party and the Republican party. If matters can bo arranged so that Republican votes can be divided, then Mr. Morris will stand about an evon show and may scratch through. . On tho other hand, If a Democrat should bo selected as tho standard bearer for tho "Americans" It would divido tho Democratic voto and would shut Morris out. Colonel Wall has beon frequently spoken of as tho candldato for mayor on tho "American" "Amer-ican" ticket. Should tho colonel accept ac-cept and bo nominated, It would moan quite a slump to tho "Americans" by Democrats who do not llko Morris and would certainly mean his defeat. It is a nice littlo schomo, and if it could be worked might help Mr. Morris Mor-ris amazingly. That It Is being tried thero is no doubt, for just let tho name of Colonel Wall bo suggested as a candldato In tho presence of any of tho Morris crowd and his supporters support-ers will immediately Indulge In pro-dictions pro-dictions to tho offect that ho could not bo elected if nominated. The Democrats aro in desperate straits this fall and will do anything to got ho Republican party divided. That Is why so many of them aro suggesting sug-gesting that Ezra Thompson Is tho logical candldato for tho "American" party and that almost any Republican will do for tho regular nomination. No Democrat, whoso namo has beon mentioned, men-tioned, is hailed with any favor, tho Morris crowd Immcdlatoly contending that tho candldato ought to bo a Republican. Re-publican. Some tlmo ago a report was circulated circu-lated to tho effect that our esteemed friend John S. Critchlow, would bo a dark horse candldato In tho mayoralty race, but this rumor is unfounded. John S. will bo a candldato for tho placo ho now holds. It is tho softest snap ho over had In his litis, njt Ho doesn't want to let go. Besides John has a lot of peoplo dependent upon him who can not afford to havo him lot go. Hence thero will bo a real nlco tlmo getting him tho nomination. And oh, what n daisy of a race ho will iavo If ho succeeds In getting tho majority ma-jority of tho convention to voto for him. Because ho will not bo racing against a weak man this tlmo; it will bo a follow who will show him a clean pair of heels. Critchlow will recclvo tho undivided support of tho Herald, which wants him there for tho patronage patron-age thero is in him, and It is fair to presume that Todkln's Weakly will also fall into lino for him, becauso, whllo that paper advocated tho oloc-tlon oloc-tlon of Knox and Slmondl, John fools In duty bound to conciliate; his political politi-cal enemies to a certain extent, and has dono so. Brother Fcrnstrom will bo a candidate candi-date to succeed himself In tho council coun-cil again. P. H. has como to bollovo that ho and tho Third prolcnct aro liko tho American Union, ono and Indivisible. In-divisible. M. J. Cunningham is mentioned strongly as a Democratic candldato for tho council in tho Second precinct. Colonel Bon D. Luco an 1 others declare de-clare they will nominate him whether lio wants it or not. Cunningham Is a very popular mnn, and would mako an ideal councilman, but it is dollars to dimes that no man of that political faith will bo elected from that section of tho town this fall. It would bo too bad to offer Cunningham as a sacrlflco and ho will doubtless decline to accopt, despite tho hilarious declarations declar-ations of Colonel Luce, ot al. Chief of Police Lynch is mentioned very frequently as tho man for mnyor on the Republican ticket, but Will Informs In-forms Truth ho does not want tho placo; that It Is a bit too rich for his blood and that. he is doing quite well where ho is, thank you. But there aro a lot of tho boys who want him to run and thus take somo of tho wind out of tho sails of tho "American" party, which is sure to nominate a Gentilo. In this connection It may bo well to state that tho quiet boom In ill fnvor of II. G. McMillan is growing. It , tjl Is understood that Charles Mostyn , ffl Owen and Rov.
