Salaries $17,180.80 General expense.. 2.30C.92 $49,493.72 Cr. bv fines and forfeitures.. 38,138.00 . i Net cost of operating $11,355.72 This is a pretty good showing for Chief Lynch, a great testimonial to his executive ability and faithfulness. It shows net expense of tho department depart-ment In 1894 to bo $38,S5C.C2 arid In 1904 under Chief Lynch only $11,-355.72, $11,-355.72, a net saving of $27,500.90 In one year. That's something greTlt. It, however, does not Included $750 which should bo credited to the police department de-partment by the fire department, and several thousand dollars which should be credited to the police department by tho street department for work dono on tho streets by tho city jail prisoners on tho chain gang. These Items oven further reduce the ccst of maintenance. In 1S94 thero were 43 men on the force all told and during that year 3.4C2 arrests were made. In 1904 tho total force was 48 men and tho arrests numbered 3,801. A chief who can make such a showing show-ing would be a pretty good nvn to have at tho head of tho municipality. Drones, loafers or grafters will have no show when Lynch is mayor. |
