Show o EZRA THOMPSON AS A MAN OF PROGRESS. "The realty situation especially awaits the result of the effort to throw off tho Incubus which demands that real cstato shall not bo sold to 'our enemies, and .deplores the making or Main street values so high." (S. L. Tribune, Sunday, Oct. 29.) In tho faco of known facts, to-wlt: that practically all of tho unimproved 'jrorcrty on Main street, through the business center, is owned by Gentiles whom tho Tribune claims as members of tho "effort to throw" tho gang, mentioned men-tioned above, It Is rather difficult to lotermino what tho Tribune moans In referring to "Incubus," or "enemies," etc., or In deploring "tho making of Main street values so high." According Accord-ing to tho Trlbuno's lino of "reasoning," "reason-ing," If we are able to follow them correctly, a man who owns a large amount of property In tho business center, who will neither sell It for a 'ow figure nor Improve It himself, Is an enemy to tho city and ought to bo classed among the reactionary element, ele-ment, which is holding tho city back from natural progress. Now, lot us tako for example tho man whom tho Tribune holds up as a shining example exam-ple of publlc-splrltedness, progress ami loyalty In this respect, Mr. Ezra Thompson. Mr. Thompson owns more property on Main street which can bo classed as unimproved than any other Individual In the city, yet what Is ho doing to Improve tho backwoods appearance ap-pearance of Main street, or to show that ho In any manner "deplores tho making of Main street values so high?" We fall to see wherein the election of Ezra Thompson to the mayoralty of tho city will Improve "the realty situation," or' how he proposes to use the position of Mayor to compel other people to sell their property. Possibly he intends to appoint a building inspector in-spector and Instruct him to condemn all of tho old rickety shacks on Main street and order them torn down. That of course would be a good scheme, but where would Ez get off? However, all this talk about what Mr. Thompson would do if elected Mayor Is merely rot; ho Is training with tho wrong crowd to have his promises taken seriously. se-riously. He will not bo elected. |
